Yes.

Superconductivity. Not the most practical as the materials requires profound sub-zero temps to make it work.

i've found an oil filled radiator for £24.99 it's 600 watt this means nothing to me will it be expensive to run?
You want this to heat a medium sized bedroom right?
Will this be the only source of heat in the room?
I'm assuming you're house sharing maybe and the bedroom is also used as your own space so doubling up as a lounge???If my maths are correct and based on a quick internet search, a 12 x 12' bedroom would require around a 4,600 BTU radiator for centreal heating which seems to equate to around 1,350 watts so 600 will be too small if there's no other heat sourch. This increases to around 1,700 watts for a lounge (higher temperature).
I reckon you want around a 2kw heater with a timer, a thermostat and switchable heat settings - maybe something like this http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/4153166/Trail/searchtext%3EOIL+RADIATOR.htm
Lidls are currently selling this at 39.99 which has a small inbuilt fan heater which can be used to provide a more rapid initial heat up but no timer.
Also search ebay, gumtree, etc. if money's a bit tight. As with most things in life, the dearer items tend to be better built.
The key factor in running costs is controlling the use. Forget about how much it costs to run if it's left on all the time, eg Dammit's coffee machine. The trick is to particularly use the thermostat carefully. Set the timer so the rooms warm when you get in. Turn the thermostat down to a lower setting when you head for bed or turn it off completely and set the timer for 30 mins before you get up.
Do not do what my wife does which is open the windows and leave the heat on when it gets too hot..... -

Have you seen the girl in the blue dress again?
No, unfortunately! Multus Delectat.
Because you are a heterosexual male and are hardwired to think that in order to keep the human species from extinction.
Good answer, I like it. And will be using it to justify all kinds of mischief.

This is pretty hot isn't it?
I formatted and installed Fallout 3, runs peachy but my laptop turned itself off after ~15 minutes so I checked the temperatures. Anything I can do?

spray the insides with compressed air to clean any dust off.
or turn off automatic fan speed and chuck it on full. -

Raise it off any solid surfaces

Hmm, it's raised. I just use it like a tower though, it sits below my desk plugged into a monitor. Could I get to the cpu in a laptop?
I'll get some compressed air.

how old is it?
-
• #19563
2-3 years. I'm not too fussed really, this is one of the few times I've tried to play a game on it.
Processor (CPU): Intel Core 2 Duo P7350
Memory (RAM): 3GB
Hard Drive: 250GB
Graphics: nVidia GeForce 9600M GS 512MB -

Those temps don't look abnormal to me.
GPU is on the warmish side but that isn't suprising during a game.

Should have said, I just ran fallout for 30 minutes or so without a restart.
GPU got up to 85'C, core was 72
-
• #19567
^that's too hot for that gpu.
Make sure the drivers are up to date and that the air flow path is completely clear, maybe try one of those laptop cooling pads. -

To make it easy to link to this thread and the other 40+ thread which discuss the same subject

spray the insides with cold water
That should sort it out

Open it up and pull a metric ton of fluff from the fan

Is this lug cracked or is it just the powdercoat?
frame's a hetchins from 82, was powercoated a year ago or so.

looks fucked

• #19573
yeah thought so.
:(

But before you bin it it must be worth taking a knife or flathead and digging into the crack. Bend the topcoat away and you can have a proper look (obv this wrecks the paint but...) It's weird how the crack traverses the lug and the tubing. Of course there must be some movement there otherwise there would be no crack at all.

Nope. Avoid. And if Seth Court, Youseff Sarodia or Parmiter street come up, walk away
Thought as much. Luckily it was free with a bike what I bought.
It's attached to this. No idea of the model though, nothing on Velobase.
Help?
