They are having a good natured pop at Dammit, the progress of who's home renovation can be tracked through posts on this thread.

I think I've just opened a can of worms... So, I've given everything a jolly good tighten up and now my cranks rub on the chain stay! I have a perfect chain line so don't really want to change out the bottom bracket. Is there a kind of spacer that can take up a bit of slack? What happens if I just wear down the cranks/chain stay? Bugger...

Sounds like you're missing one another; marriages have been built on less than a mutual rejection of a particular motion picture.
I can confidently say that nuknow would not want to marry me.

Have just come to the end of a 12 month lease on the rental property my GF and I live in. The (large) letting co. we signed the lease with wants an increase of 10%, which seems excessive given the issues we have had dealing with them in over the last year.
Does anyone have any tips/tricks for rental negotiations? Do we have much scope to push-back if we are re-sign? Any resources online re: our rights etc.? Any help appreciated.
Oh, and we are in East London (Bethnal Green/Hackney).
Many thanks!!!
Do you know long long they've had the current price you're paying?
10% a year is huge
That's doubling every 7 years

My letting agent wanted to put our rent up by £700 a few months ago. I researched prices in the area for other properties, living cost of the area and even went as far as newspaper clippings of crimes that happened two doors down. Then presented my case at their office face to face. The rent did end up increasing though... by £13.

You constantly hear on the news that lettings rates are climbing due to the difficulty of getting a mortgage etc- I would imagine that the market rates have probably climbed a bit, and the lettings agent is trying to increase their commisionable income.
Do as Fixed Cheese has done, and present them with some market research on the prices in the area (probably easiest if you do it on a per bedroom rate, it's the most straightforward way of comparing).
But- the lettings agent/landlord has the final word, and if they are confident that they can get the new rent for the property they will tell you to leave if you don't wish to pay it.

Does anyone have a recommendation for a good place to get a couple poster sized prints made? I need one thats 80x60 and another 40x40, from some digital pics I have on my PC. I plan on getting them framed too. I found a place called http://www.zip-posters.co.uk/ which seem cheap, anything I should look out for with regards to quality??

Try MTA Digital, I use them quite a bit for digital work and their quality is top notch.

I'm preparing my bathroom to paint it but there is a section of the paint that has completely peeled off to the plaster(?) underneath, about the size of a small plate. Should I just sand the edges down to get it to taper off or what?
The walls are already bumpy because of how old this place is but this won't do

^I tried that, sanded the edges real carefully and used a tiny bit of filler to get it completely flat but it's still visible and looks shit. I used to be a plasterer, which oddly enough meant there was no way I could be arsed to skim it.
Either scrape all the paint off (PITA) or get the ceiling skimmed.
still confused. :/
