  • Has anyone here had a near death experience? Would you say after the feeling of death that it peaceful? After a nde do you not worry about death now?

Only in as much as once finding myself thinking "This will all be over soon, 'cos I think I'm gonna die" but then I didn't, so that was nice.

    It happened to my mate

He said it was just like dreaming, couldnt remember much specific, just like waking up in the morning

if I remember right I think the greeks used to call sleeping 'mini death'

  • I'm trying to choose cogs for the cassette and chainsets on my road bike. It has 9s Chorus circa 2000 with short cage rear mech (that will accept up to 27 in "chain wrap"). It is quite hilly with some mountains around here (and I would like give a shot at Mt Ventoux in a few weeks). I still wanted to have a good range of gears, so I chose 12-13-14-15-187-19-21-24-28 with a 39-49. So I end up with this:

Do you think it is a good compromise ? Would I gain a lot spending money to change the 49 to a 50 (so reaching the max CW at 27) ?

  • Is it possible to take a steel frame somewhere and have half the fork, and a section of the seat- and chainstays chromed?

    Like this:

    Will/can it damage the bike?

  • Has anyone had there dislocated shoulder repaired? Bankart repair I believe it's called.

I want to be told how much better it is to get it done, I'm a little apprehensive. Anyone had it done and fucked it up again?

My brother has had it done. Only after dislocating his shoulder about 12 times having had lots of physio and gym though. His doctors said it was pretty much a last resort thing, as you can get restricted mobility. He seems ok now, had the surgery about 6 months ago and still doing physio. His movement is a bit restricted and he couldn't cycle for about 2 months, but not as bad as waking up in the middle of the night with your arm hanging out of place.

Won't damage the bike unless you get it done by a cowboy. Can be VERY expensive though, just ring around platers in london and ask... I found a company called tregunna who quoted quite cheap prices, but not sure what their quality is like as i never got it done...

Thanks, interesting that. Got nothing on record here about it so I reckon it would be a long way off judging by that.

Not driving is going to be a killer

  • Is this a bank holiday all weekend? Or is it just Monday? I don't want to travel 40 miles to find something is shut

Yes, but not anywhere. They should be Chrome Platers preferably.

    No

  • Will we manage a barbeque this evening?

BBC weather says Sunny intervals, wouldn't rainy intervals be a little more informative?

  • Anybody know if any of those Coinstar machines are still in existence?

Their web site says that there are machines at New Cross Gate sainsburys and Asda on OKR but they weren't there when I visited.

I've got a very large number of coins that I'd like to change.

  • Nice one, cheers mate. They don't even have that one listed on their site.

And it is closer than either of the ones I visited today!

  • Also - Metro Bank branches seem to have them too.

  • Tesco Surrey Quays has one.

BUt they change it for coupons, right?

  • Sainsburys Angel has one for sure, I used it last month.

  • surely you can just take your coins to the counter in a bank, that way they don't charge you and you get real cash....

  • They'll charge you if you don't have a business account, however they will give you some money bags, so you can count it yourself, then bring it in for them to check and exchange for folding.

You can count coins pretty fast with a bit of motivation.

NXG Sainsburys does have one. It used to be by the front door, it has moved to the by the other exit now. Walk along the line of checkouts towards the learning centre and it is on the right.

  • seem to have spotted my brother on you tube clips.

  • Right- I want some worktops, hardwood, reclaimed/recycled.

Where in London would be able to provide these?

Something like old laboratory worktops would be great, or similar.

  • Swap it at your local post office. Or are London PO's too busy for that?

Might be worth making enquiries at UCL. They've been doing a lot of refurbishing recently i.e. throwing out very nice fittings and replacing them with crap that happens to have more built in electrical points.

Again, you have to have an account for them to count it- and even then, only small amounts.
