You don't know Max then. He's not even a cyclist, but a skateboarder.

Right.
Mentioned a while ago that I had a couple of on-going issues with the Boardman CX Team.
I thought they were seperate.
Issue 1.
The bottom bracket made a creaking and moaning noise, such as would be expected to be coming from the door to Von Dracula's castle in a Hammer Horror film.
I was fairly ok with this- it's a cheap FSA unit and an easy fix, I was just slightly disapointed with the life I'd got from it ~ 3 months dry use, 75 miles per week.
Issue 2
My headset/stem kept coming loose. It was very annoying.
I was cautious because it's a carbon steerer, so did not want to over-tighten it.
I retightened the damn thing last night, for the third or fourth time, this time doing it just slightly tighter than I had before.
Well, the bottom bracket stopped making any noise at all.
Looks like that wasn't the source of the noise.
It was the fork.
Bugger.
It's now back in force- came back on the ride in, and matured into it's full, symphonic creaking glory on the way home.
What to do?

Dammit; if you ever have trouble with your arse, check your elbows first. Could save you a lot of trouble and embarrassment.

I bet you £50 that you wouldn't be able to tell where the noise is coming from.

Nope, Tiswas has it.

You need to be precise here, so the steerer doesn't snap.
The issue might be with the compression bolt, no? Sounds like the bearings are not preloaded if everything seems to be loose. -
• #15720
I know, I think the issue has been being too cautious.
The bung just will not stay in, even when done up "proper tight".
This makes it tricky to preload the bearings before doing up the stem.

Are you suggesting I once removed my bottom bracket when a quarter release and re-tighten of the left peddle stopped the creaking noise? As if........

And you've used plenty of the carbon assembly paste (not tynan 's paste!)?

I asked about that (quel surprise!) and Smallfurry advised against assembly paste on the bung.

Tells me twice! like a boss.
I use firefox and never had a problem, tell Skylark it would be easier for him just to open another tab.
*he can't see this, I'm on ignore.
