I want to take a phone to Japan and pop a Japanese sim in it when I get there. I want to take a phone that has a battery that lasts for ages.

Will a phone bought in the UK accept a Japanese sim, and will it be compatible with Japanese networks? And what would be a good phone to buy? Nothing fancy of course. Just one that can make and receive calls, and lasts a long time.

Some phones will some wont. Newer phones tend to be locked to a specific network and if you want to use them with another, you need to get them unlocked. I did this when i was in thailand by buying an unlock code through ebay. Cost me 6 quid i think and they emailed it to me within 24 hours. Let me know if you want me to find out which seller it was and ill send it over.

^^^^ Get an old phone that only does the basics. The battery lasts ages and also there nothing there to waste away the battery. A phone I had a few years back the battery would last a 10-11 days before it wanted charging under normal usage.
