  • And what's the frame?

  • Charge Plug

  • Well I don't know much about them but I'd be fairly sure it's 120mm

  • If I want to check what the OLN is on a frame for a new back wheel, do I just measure the distance between the dropouts?

    Yes.

  • Thanks all.

  • Yes, back in Feb, Euston to Stoke

  • Did you book your bike on?

  • Yes. I recall it being a hassle on the app/website and I think I solved it by buying two singles separately, for approx the same price.

  • Actually, now I think the problem was booking a complete journey where I had to change onto a local train that didn't take bike reservations.

So I bought a seat + bike reservation for Euston-Stoke-Euston, and then a separate seat-only ticket for Stoke-destination-Stoke.

  • Balls. Was hoping you'd say it was no problem, you didn't book and just walked on.

  • Go to the station or call up the line? I've just rocked up to the ticket office and booked a slot on the day but this was very off peak

  • I have an open return ticket and apparently they only take bike bookings on the phone in advance

  • I don't think that's a good idea as my bike went in a locked area just behind the driver, so they have to know in advance when to open it. Although perhaps not a problem if you are going terminus-to-terminus.

  • Yes, they use the old Virgin trains. I wouldn't rely on someone remembering they need to open it for you.

  • I wouldn't rely on someone remembering they need to open it for you.

Last time this happened to me I just blocked the door from closing again and again until someone came down to try and work out what the problem was.

They were really annoyed at me until I said I had a bike locked away and had a proper bike booking for the journey, so it was their fault for not being around to open up for me at my booked stop.

  • I’ve just put up curtains using a rail made of plumbing pipe, with wooden rings sliding over it. It’s a bit noisy for my liking.

What’s the best teflon/other tape to apply to the top of the rail to slicken and quieten the whole thing? Transparent best.

  • Try spraying the pipe and rings with furniture polish - like Pledge or similar.
ETA - Stuffing the pipe with something - newsprint for instance - would probably cut down any resonance by a minuscule amount.

  • Laying a table with chopsticks for eating irons.

Points toward, or away from the diner? What is the etiquette?

  • Same as knives and forks - away. Put the bit you'll be holding closest.

  • Thank you.

  • I'm trying to visualise how to fill a field with tents for ~700 people. Any suggestions for some sort of CAD system to draw a plan? Ideally free or free trial.

I can get the dimensions of the field from maps. I've got some assumptions about a typical tent size and some rules about how the tents are arranged (minimum distance between tents, 7 groups, each a two ring semi-circle etc). Also some ancillary equipment.

  • It really is!

The brake is an Avid BB7 SL. Power is good. It can lift the rear wheel at slower speeds.
As I said earlier, the movement is between the rotor and hub.
The quick release (bolt on skewer) is tight. I don't think it has anything to do with the issue.

I ordered a new rotor (TRP TR-25) to see how the fit compares to the Shimano rotor.
I also ordered some Loctite 638. That should fix the issue if everything else fails.

  • Any suggestions for some sort of CAD system to draw a plan?

How many tents in total? I think I'd print the map at the right scale to use Monopoly houses as tents, they are available on ebay etc. for 10-15p each, or this Lego brick which is 5p. Learning CAD for this one thing doesn't seem like a bargain.

  • How many tents in total?

Not quite sure but since I need to start somewhere I'm working on 350.

I do like the idea of building it out of Lego but I kind of want to do it this week and Lego parts orders take ages. Also PITA to arrange Lego bricks in circles unless I kragle them to paper which would be a crime.
