Trying to fit a rear canti brake (avid shorty ultimate on cinelli mash work), noob question: do I need a cable hanger at the rear above the straddle wire as per the front brake? All my googling and youtubing has only yielded guidance on front brake installation and set up...

You do indeed. Older frame would have a braze on for the hanger . But look for something that is integrated with swat clamp.

If you fuck the head up enough by camming out,
If you knacker a screw head rather than stopping because of cam out, that’s on you.

In the final analysis, if you fuck up anything mechanical it's on you 🙂

Concurred.
I have a similar arrangement on my Pomp with those brakes. -

Aghh, bugger. Thought that might be the case. Cheers for the link, guess I won't be finishing that this weekend.

A poignant truism.
Having worked on projects alongside teams of gruff chippies from many geographic origins butchering pre-fab exhibition stands together within unrealistic timeframes cut even shorter by ruthless corporate end-clients, I can attest to the Pozi head being an effective temper to a wildly-wielded, overpowered Makita impact tool.
It’s only really by the ‘profis’ in the Germanic zones that I’ve seen Torx fixings employed deftly; rare to see a countersunk head over 0.5mm over/under-driven, let alone mashed or stripped, and usually with a fag dangling from the bottom lip simultaneously (this whole ceaselessly, remorselessly smoking on site thing still blows my tiny lil baby brain to bits).

National grid have just rocked up with a few vans and a digger outside my house - making a right racket - is there a law against this kind of work in the middle of the night? If so how do I make a complaint?

To the extent that there is, there are exemptions for emergency works. Just consider a night without sleep as the price you pay for having electricity at your beck and call for the 364 days of the year.

Apparently it’s emergency work so nothing we can do.
I will.

Also, 365 this year 😉

Did Shimano ever make splined 6/7-speed rear hubs with 40 holes? Hatching up one of my usual hair-brained plans...
-
• #105998
was just looking at a wheel on eBay that is laced to a 40h shimano hub, 7speed :)

My guess is that her YT videos are very tailored to get the best metrics to make the most money. I have found myself watching her Instagram Stories more than her YT vids as it goes more into her design decisions and you get more of an idea why or what she is doing. Most of it is still just her trying stuff out, which I like.

You’ve put it into words much more astutely than I could.
The balance of craft/design/entertainment to get the biggest audience. Which is completely understandable.
I suppose I really should have known that, given that I was brought up to believe that PZ was the end point of driver design and everything else was inferior foreign crap. In a pre-Victor Kiam instance of "I liked the product so much I bought [a tiny part of] the company", my dad bought shares in GKN in the early 60s.
