  • Found an image that I think shows the same road from the same aspect.

  • Yess!!!! Thanks!!!!

  • How did you find it?

  • Standing on the shoulders of giants.

I saw the geograph image link that @t-v had posted and had a play around with that site. Those images showed it was definitely Middle Knoll in the background and I had a look at the others.

Incidentally, it comes up when searching on geograph for Footholme.

  • Boom!

  • Fantastic work, both of you. My brother is going to be a very happy man. Cheers.

  • I love internet sleuthing.

  • I love that part of the world. I was asking my mum and dad about a walk we did through there when I was a kid only last week.

  • How did you find that pic of the hill and road?

  • I was fairly convinced it must be Footholme pumping station but couldn't find an image for it on Google image search, and as you say there is no street view up there. If I was right, Middle Knoll had to be the hill behind, so I did a search for that and turned up the image. I'm glad @Greenbank had more search skills than me and could find the building to confirm it.

I have ridden up that road before, but only once when I was 17 in 2001. Something about the way the road kicked up stuck in my mind. Plus the landscape was familiar to me, and the buildings looked similar architecturally to others I know up there.

  • We only went there once and it was driving us nuts so very grateful to you both. I'd looked at that valley but missed the actual building.

  • It has made me happy to help.

Why does it mean so much to him/ you?

  • Reading the replies, I thought this thread was Bicycle Tag of bike for a minute or two.

  • I want some new spd pedals that offer more support. Looking at the M530 that have a cage/platform. Currently using M520 pedals.

    https://www.halfords.com/cycling/pedals-pegs/pd-m530-mtb-spd-trail-pedals---two-sided-mechanism-black-457407.html?

Are the any other pedals I should be looking at?

  • any other pedals I should be looking at?

Not really. I feel that the XT version PD-M8020 or 8120 is definitely better, but maybe not by enough to justify being at least twice the price.

  • Don't dismiss

Do dismiss Clickr wobbly nodder pedals if you're already used to proper cyclist clip less pedals 🙂

  • I hadn’t seen those, thanks. I think I may lose all street cred with those on the fixie skidder though.

  • wobbly nodder pedals

This wobbly nodder has used them quite successfully for a PBP and a 24, plus plenty of other Audaxes, commuting and utility cycling.

Sure they're not for the weight weenies but I hate the faff of single sided pedals and the built in reflector satisfies my innate need to satisfy the appropriate reflector laws.

  • Thanks, I had the same thoughts regarding the XT pedals.

  • If I have a hydraulic front brake, and the hose is routed through the NDS fork leg, how do I change the bottom headset bearing without either (a) replacing the brake hose or (b) chopping a bit off the end of the existing hose?

I can undo the hose from the caliper, but the olive won't fit instead the routing for the front brake hose. I can't remove the olive as it's crimped into place. There's not enough length in the brake hose between the hose exit point at the bottom of the fork and the olive to allow the fork steerer to be removed from the frame.

As far as I can see the answer is 'you can't' but I'd be very glad to be proved wrong.

  • Have you a picture? Could you not take off the stem and bars, leave the whole brake connected and take out the fork? Or is it an aero frame with awkward fully internal routing?

  • It's my ultracycling bike:

Everything is fully internal - Di2 wires, brake hoses, rear light cable.

However, if I took the stem and bars off, I suppose there might be enough wiggle room to remove the fork. I'll give it a try. Cheers.

  • It doesn't really mean anything, we were just frustrated at not being able either to remember it or deduce it.
