So, I'm trying to revive the enigma as a parts bin build. Wanted to take the fork out, service headset bearings etc. However, I cannot get the cap past this part of the steerer. Not even with a bit of persuasion via rubber mallet. Looks like the diameter is thicker just below the expander, but the top seems to be bonded in. What am I going to do now? Is the fork a write off?

Remove the expander from inside the steerer tube

How, looks like the top thing is bonded?

Stick an Allen key inside and undo

Any suggestions for a LBS in the nor/nor-east of London who can true a wheel? Clever Mike is a stone’s throw away but they’re closed for the duration.
Everyone else seems to offer set-menu services in the Gold/Platinum/Unobtanium style.
Thanks! -

Got it. Ta.

And while it's out, file it down so that the OD is smaller than that of the fork steerer.

Looking at some vanity cranks to replace the apex 1x
https://ingrid.bike/product/crankset-crs-pop/
Ok crank length option 170mm
When I get to “assale” (axle) length I am confused. Can’t find a corresponding measurement for existing cranks
Can find Q factor but that’s not the same as k factor.Any ideas where I would find the Apex axel length? Does it matter? Can I just go for the narrower axel length, or would the longer be the safer bet?
Yes I know ingrid are not currently taking orders.

Can anyone find me a copy of a BBC Panorama programme called "The Marketing of Margaret"?
It's a fantastic documentary that I used to use to teach students about the 1983 election as a case study, but it's been taken off YouTube and is not accessible on the iPlayer.

Thanks!

There’s a diagram in the first PDF on that page. It’s the width over the bottom bracket cups, which will be specific to your frame and cups.
I’d expect most road bikes to need the shorter one.

that’s ideal, thanks!

No worries. We’re pretty busy right now but pm me when you’re planning on coming over and I’ll try and get it done ASAP if it’s urgent.

Thanks! We once got a pissy email from a customer about something, and he made a snide reference to the name’s Orwellian origin. Only he quoted 1984 and not Animal Farm. Took great delight in pointing this out to him. He didn’t reply :)

Cheers... I stuck a request in - not urgent, just would be nice to have the wheel working. It’s been in storage for a few years, it can wait!

Mine will need a deep, deep clean first.

If you're really in a pinch you could get a tool to convert the signal of a regular camera with hdmi output and trick your computer into thinking it's a webcam.
Blackmagic do some good ones (web presenter and atem mini range are the ones to look at but ultrastudio range will also work, albeit in a different way).
They range in costs from about 130 - 650. There will inevitably be cheaper equivalents or secondhand units on eBay. Your video quality will also shit on everyone else's. -

think @Velocio has done this.
I managed to get a half decent one from Scan last week, still going to be a week or so to delivery, but better than most.
I really don't get the fascination with seeing peoples face on these calls, I have worked from home for the last 8 years and have never put my face on screen, but now everyone is asking us to turn the webcams on, means I have to wear a shirt!

I got an Elgato Camlink which takes the camera HDMI and turns it into a USB web cam... it's pretty phenomenal, would recommend.
I only did this as I manage people, and I immediately noticed the disconnect in people when they couldn't see me, or see me well. It improves the human connection of video conferencing... but not by much, because it's not face to face.

Thanks guys.
I'm trying to keep it super simple. I'm working off of a Macbook and have a single USB C running to it from the monitor (power and data). Hoping for a single USB powered solution that can sit on top of the screen. It's on a gas arm so ideally nothing too chunky.
Also, i don't have a digital camera i could use so i'd have to buy that on top of the connector etc.

Did you get this sorted? Paggs or Bridge Baker in Wandsworth Bridge Road were reporting stocks of flour for sale.
There can only be one.
