  • Does anyone have a checklist of what they'll take with them on a (2/3 week) trip?
I'm looking for some comparison to see if I'm not taking way too much with me..

Try this thread on the CTC forum: http://forum.ctc.org.uk/viewtopic.php?f=16&t=48438

  • I bookmarked this post.. Which was for a 2 month trip.. Work your way down from there, which is what I'm doing..

  • Cheers guys.

  • I'd love to do a lightweight tour with a few of you guys, none of this fixed malarky!

Fucking in! A brunch of blokes arsing about around England.

Very Three Men on a Brummel.

  • I'm up for a bit of lightweight/cheap touring.....it would have to be September for me though......

    I fancy Ireland.

  • some of you guys should come up north and we can do the lakes, like men.

Several grown naked men diving into one of the lake in cumbria, how liberating does that sound?

It would be nice to go abroad, even to France or something, Ed could bring his trailer.

    No way I'll be bringing that two wheels trailer, if I have to bring one it'll be one of those single wheel one;

  • What the fuck am I talking about? there's no fucking way I'll let you all drop all that booze you'll buy in Calais on the fucking trailer.

  • Damn Ed saw through my plans!!

16 Litres here, looks quite good, not sure if I'd need more though for audax/ light tours.

I think I'm going to buy this for ultralight touring, then pick up the high peak mini light tent I should be fine riding back from Spain with that.

  • Sound good.

But not from Winstanleys bikes, avoid them at all cost.

The Topeak Scott mentioned earlier are pretty good, we had that exact model in our shop and I was impressed by it's design, not only that, the pannier is an impressive size for a racktop bag making it perfect for a light tour, the only downside is that you'll need a matching rack to make it work.

Bear in mind that it's not exactly waterproof, I know this because a customer who needed a racktop bag for his electric assistance bicycle (he have a disabliites) managed to get his battery that resided in his TrunkBag wet after an hour in the rain, so worth getting a rain cover for that otherwise excellent topeak.

  • Pics or it didn't happen.

When the fog came in my blutack-mounted glowsticks fell off my powertap so I had no computer visibility any more. I need something to light up the computer. Help!

    ^My current touring rig^

If you're happy with the light output from the glowstick try velcro, the sticky backed stuff. Also try a dive shop for better glowsticks.

    Why's that?

  • P.S.

Would we seriously be able to organise a tour for all of us? I think it would be awesome if we could..

  • A week worth of touring in England, August, i'm games for that.

Chance are we'll probably be intoxicated in order to stand each other's (read: me).

    Why's that?

    Have a butcher.

  • Sounds great, the fact we are staying in the UK would keep the cost down.

Now just to plan a route, see who would want to come and try and split the weight between us.

Ah crap, I can't seem to find them for sale anywhere else :( :(

  • I'm thinking riding to Wales and back perhaps, enough for a week worth of tour methinks.

The reason I suggested a week is that I know a lots of us don't have that much time off work.

  • Make it late august/ September and I'm in........

  • Won't be able to manage a whole week off work so soon after my 2 1/2 week jaunt but would definitely be game for a long weekend (or three) somewhere.

  • `starting Thursday and ending Tues?

  • Dammit I can't seem to find that rack top bag anywhere else apart from Winstanleys :(

  • Isn't this similar? (can't see properly - mobile version)

  • Ed, "Touring" is not an excuse to get drunk and go skinny dipping with a load of blokes...!

....that is but one of the things to look forward to.

I have no holidays left, however I do work 4 on 4 off, so if there's any chance of fitting in around that would be quality.

Shall we start a list of dates, and peoples can add whether or not they could be available for them, then work from there?

  • I'd be up for some light UK touring around august and September time... some of you guys should come up north and we can do the lakes, like men.

Give me a shout when you come to cumbria, I'll give you a hard time on the passes ;)

Seriously though, right now I'm doing nothing much, always fancied nw scotland by motor bike, in the absence of a full fat licence (bugger weedy bikes), touring it and out onto the outer hebridies sounds very appealing. Bikes on the faeries out there often don't cost much more than peds. Aug/sept probably the best time for weather too.
