  • sod and stick them in togather?

    This.

I always pack up my tent wet, inner usually dries out by the time you wake up.
Although I do use my towel to dry the floor.

  • looking to get an al rounder, looking at the Condor Fratello, anyone got on... thoughts recomendations??

  • im not sure if its already been put here but i got one of these today and it might be of use to tourers planning on carrying awkward size bottles,

    http://www.bikebuddy.co.uk/

pretty good bottle cage that can expand to fit different size bottles for fuel / thermos / whatever your carrying. people have used them for tents apparently. Means for me I can carry a fuel bottle under my downtube keeping it away from my clothes and anythnig else in my panniers. It can move right back towards the bottom bracket, enough clearence even with mud guards for a large bottle. Mk 3 has quick release so its easy to pop on and off

  • Sweet.
I'm told that I should just buy bottles of water and squeeze them in. No need for water bottles apparently.

  • it also a worthly recommendation that also help give the illusion that you don't have enough money for water bottle.

secondly - in a tour, you do need to clean your water bottle every now and then, so having water bottle is an easier way to not worry about the bottle.

  • regarding muilt-function pocket knife, is there any recommendation to go for? I have an old Swiss Army one that seen better time and about to fall apart, was going to get the same one again for my tour, but was wondering if there's any alternative (such as Leatherman for instance).

  • Gerber, leatherman for mortal wages.

    http://www.gerberuk.com/index.php/products/tools

  • That look great, trouble is I'm baffle by the sheer choice of each tools.

  • Know two people that have them.
Both are very happy with them, many thousands of miles done without much agro.
Touring this summer through France to the Alps with a friend for whom this will be his third Alp tour on his Fratello.
Both are Campag specced which seems really reliable for touring but I would seriously suggest going for a hand built touring wheel set instead of stock. I think they charged £100 surcharge for those (Campag on Mavic Open Pro) and they're a solid choice for loaded touring.

    Happy shopping

  • Do Campag make hubs apart from Record anymore? I thought they just did factory wheels...

  • I wouldn't go for campag hubs anyway, go for Hope instead for durability.

my dad's campag hubs (2010) worn out pretty fast under a year (to be fair he does 200 miles a week), he getting a new wheel build with Open Pro Ceramic, Hope Pro 3 hubs, and swisstop brake pads to work with the ceramic rims.

this should last for quite a while (I highly recommended ceramic rims, last much longer than normal rims).

Get a decent bike specfic multi tool and a proper knife such as an opinel

  • I love my Opinel knife - weighs next to nothing and has stayed razor sharp. Ten quid very well spent.

  • Thing is, while they're useful I doubt it'll be useful as a can opener, a saw, a pryer etc. the usual survival tool.

  • You get the advantage of pliers on a Letherman but make sure you look properly and get the corkscrew as now I end up taking that as well!

My mate has one. He likes it, and got it for the same reason as you. I've got the pista, which has the same tubing and again it's great. The only downside with Condor's is they are possibly a bit over-priced. But do have class.

I've got the little juice, that I got bought as a leaving present. It has a corkscrew which is useful. It did me well around Latin America. I would have liked one of the bigger badder ones, but actually I didn't need it because I had a propper knife and usually a machete (altho I'm not saying you need one of those). One tip, I don't know if it still applies, but even with taxes I think buying from the USA was *much *cheaper.

IMO I think you should also have a proper lock knife. They are always much nicer to use bigger and stronger. If this is for Latin AM, then I'd just get a small non-folding knife with a sheath, or a decent sized cooking knife.

Ta Ivan, going to do some searching on the bay too, ta for peoples suggestion on wheel builds to.

  • anyone fancy a terra nova voyager?
    only 2kg 2 person tent. £250
    brand new

  • Nice

  • Can anyone advise me on a touring wheel issue?

    i have 2 wheelsets
    a) Campagnolo Mirage 1997ish hubs on Campagnolo Mexico rims
    b) Suntour Superbe hubs on Mavic MA2 rims (virtually new)

As the rest of my tourer's group is Mirage i was thinking of swapping the MA2s on to the mirage hubs. The idea being MA2's are better for touring than mexicos.

I think this makes sense as then i can sell off the mexicos. Should i bother or are mexicos a good touring rim anyway?

  • anyone fancy a terra nova voyager?
    only 1.50kg 2 person tent. £250
    brand new

Hey, I might be interested if you could go a bit cheaper?

Some reviews are saying it's 1.7kg. Is it definitely 1.5?

  • Thats becouse I used info from a different model. The one I have is the 4 season voyager terra ntova that weighs 2.1kg. Sorry about the confusion. Given this, I am droping the price 2 £220 posted

  • just so is absolutly clear the model (sorry got myself confused)
    this is the tent specs

  • Woulda fully snapped this up last year in the summer. Such a good tent.

  • Ah that's a shame. Would have snapped it up if it was 1.5kg.
    Good luck with your sale!
