  • Ah found it, the B&M USB-Werk;

They're cheaper than the E-Werk, a much better choice IMHO.

  • i use the luxos u light, came with a usb charging device, i never have used the charging device, is supposedly charge cell phone types of batteries. but the light is very impressive and worth the money

  • That's the new one that been released back in December? it'll be next on my list when i go touring again.

  • that is

  • Anyone have experience with 'The Plug II' from tout terrain? Seems like a more elegant solution.

  • jobst would call that overkill.
Here's his equipment for an 18 day jaunt through the alps:

Very very good, and very very expensive, limited choice due to ahead set-up.

  • ^^ oral squamous cell carcinoma?

  • Hiya hivemind.

I a looking to put a rear rack on my Dunwich Dynamo bike so I can carry food and a change of clothes for the missus and me.

As the bike in question has mud guard eyelets and no rack mounting points, the rack needs to mount to the brake bridge.

Tubus fly is the obvious choice but are there any alternatives worth considering?

    thanks Stuart

p.s. not considering a handlebar bag as I already have some ortlieb panniers from when I had a full rack equipped bike.

  • Guards and rack on the same eyelet using a longer bolt?

  • You don't need to carry a lots, just one pannier will be fine.

Tubus fly is regarded as the best for the money, for the budget offering, the Tortec and Blackburn for under £30 is another option.

  • I have a Tortec and can't fault it. It's a sturdy and light piece of metal that goes on your bike. No complaints.

Should have been clearer - mounting the vertical struts to the mud guard eyes is what will happen but the bike doesn't have the braze ons for mounting the horizontal struts of a traditional rack - hence mounting to the brake bridge is needed.

For sure it will only need one pannier - I just don't wantto be riding with backpack or messenger bag for that distance.

    tortec it is then,

  • One thing, if you intend to be fully loaded (panniers and stuff on top of the rack), the Tortec may not be sufficient enough, however they're plenty enough for a normal tour (2x panniers).

  • This axiom one attaches to the brake clamp or you could get a different mount like this one

  • nope, no intention to be fully loaded.

also looks like all the tortec racks need mounting points so it will have to be the tubus

  • You don't need mounting points, just p-clips it.

Perfect and much cheaper than the tubus rack.

    thanks all.

  • We're off in a week for the world's most underprepared eight country tour. I would love to be able to ask for advice on equipment but I can't remember what I need. I made a useful list of things that I'd do differently/take with after the last tour but I can't find it.

Learning point: put useful lists on the internet where they can be located later.

  • Maybe start packing much too early, so that as you pack your memory could be jogged about improving/cutting down kit, and you'll have time to adjust?

    Just a thought.

  • ps Where are you heading?

  • I have the list (but thanks) - I actually have an uncharacteristically organised spreadsheet detailing what we were taking in each pannier, what we were wearing at point of departure etc. But I wrote down in a notebook at the end of the tour lots of useful things like 'would not take xx' and 'would buy yy' and 'would bring more of zz' - I just can't find it.

    Skully - something like this:

though I think we might ditch Liechtenstein in favour of the north shore of Lake Constance because it looks awesome:

  • Oh. Oops.

  • Liechtenstein is totally amazing, plus won't exactly take you long to see the country haha!
