  • I don't think 'cold from below' is really an issue at >0 temps. Certainly not in my experience, the quality of the bag makes all the difference. I've had this and the alpkit nemo, slept out throughout spring/autumn (down around 0 but never below to my knowledge) and never felt like that was an issue...

  • Cheers. That might work then.

  • JR Gear is an aliexpress sleeping mat that is good quality both in size, toughness and r value and very affordable as well.

  • We've got those and they're a nice step up in comfort from a foam mat. A bit bouncy castle if you get the inflation level wrong though.

I've got a Vango Aero Compact up for sale if anyone's after a mat. PM me.

  • Just picked up a Robens Icefall IV 4 seasons bag from sports pursuit for £85 quid. -11 comfort.

  • Blimey. Where are you planning on using that?

  • Here is Scotland :)

Hoping to do some winter camping seeing as most of the spring was a write off.

  • Scotland, so it’s your summer bag then?

  • An additional vote for the Synmat, think mine is an UL7 rectangular, it's been fine out at -5°.

  • Another vote for Synmat, pack size and weight is great and I've not been cold in zero degrees with a decent bag. Think mine is the UL7.

  • Looking for a sleeping bag for the missus, this looks neat:
    https://www.phdesigns.co.uk/down-blanket

But anyway she won't spend money on PHD stuff, what's the best budget option? My old down bag is like 1kg and packs down to the size of about 3 of my sleeping bags. :S

  • Anyone shifting any used super packable bags (PHD, etc) or jackets?
Looking for <1kg packable summer bags or maybe jacket/ half bag combos.

  • Guessing Small jacket is too small?

  • It's for the grrl, she asked if you're calling her fat? ;)

Was looking at S to M but I guess it depends on the specific jacket measurements.

  • Ah, perfect then.
    Montbell Thermawrap UL Jacket.
Men's Small which is a true to size small and also fit my small (female) partner.
Used a little by me, it's this one in the nice red colour.
    Another review here
Weight, basically nothing; warmth, pretty damn good; Price, was 195 eur new so how bout £85

  • Yeah, that looks pretty neat and 3x less than a PHD one. She's just wandered outside. I'll get back to you in a tick.

  • Just spotted the Rab Ignition 1 on sportspursuit, anyone have any experience with this one in particular?
In the market for a new sleeping bag but haven't gone too deep with the googling yet (will also have a proper read through the thread). Specifically to pack down pretty small if possible for an overnighter on the bike in August if the plan goes ahead

  • Is there a consensus on cloudbase vs forclaz 700? I currently have a numo, I think it has a very small leak/issue of leaking air overnight...

  • could patch it?

  • I think it's a leaky valve so harder to patch - searched for bubbles in the bath and nada

  • I had a similar problem. Numo slowly losing air, no obvious bubbles. Turned out the material had degraded, so slowly lost air (but not quickly enough for bubbles). May be worth taking up with Alpkit if it's within the warranty period (2 years IIRC?).

  • I had 2 Numos leaking at the "corners" of the valve where the two sheets are glued together. 3rd one didn't leak as badly but I still had glue it a bit. Now the sharp end of the plastic valve piece has poked a hole in the material so I'll have to patch that as well.

You might have to squish it pretty hard to see the bubbles though

  • Thanks for the feedback both. I actually managed to find an old lumo I have and I inflated both yesterday and overnight they have slowly deflated. I think both are outside of their warranty period unfortunately. Reading reviews on decathlon it sounds like the forclaz has the same issue, so I’ve ordered a cloud base as the three year warranty seems decent. A thermarest Neo air would be nice but way too expensive really

  • Given perennial problems with the Numo, has anyone tried the Exped Synmat HL? It's an R value of 3 and ~350g. Would be much warmer in a Scottish winter.

Seems for the sake of <£30 (relative to other SynMats, insulated Sea to Summit, etc.) it's worth shaving off 200g and a good amount of pack space, but how is it for durability? I read the lightweight gear has only a 2 year warranty but Exped website says 5 on the HL...

  • I have an insulated Sea to Summit UL that is comfy for side sleeping. Had an issue with it slowly losing air (so my arse would be touching the ground after 5 or so hours) and they replaced it no questions asked. Exped one looks like a good choice though, I probably would've chosen that were it not for a great price on Sea to Summit when I was looking (£80 on Wiggle). 200g is well worth £30!
