• R.i.p.

  • RIP Claire.

(I was talking to a friend last night about cycling (she's moved to Clapham and is moving around different sites for new job and with the TFL rises thinking of cycling) and the one thing she said 'I won't go to the left of lorries'. the message is getting out there...)

  • My thoughts go out to her family and friends. RIP. Ride safe out there people

  • so sad. thoughts go out to her family and friends. RIP lady...

  • Awful.

    R.I.P.

  • Yet again, my thoughts go out to all who knew her. so sad. RIP

  • each time i read one of these threads it touches me and worries me re the safety of all of us

thoughts go out to family and loved ones

I get the same thing. A huge sinking feeling in my stomach. It seems utterly incongruous that we partake in something so environmentally responsible, so good for our health and wellbeing, so darned innocent, but sometimes it kills us. It just doesn't add up.

  • There still doesn't seem to be anything about this on-line. Nothing in the Standard or East London Advertiser or even on Twitter--has anyone found anything?

  • Well I just did a search and found nothing. Maybe there's hope?

In the search I came across this:

YouTube - Bicyclist Killed By Cement Truck

And I wonder why the deaths, partic. at junctions where incidents have occurred before, don't get airtime like this. I mean, this is a big TV news piece. A cyclist in London gets killed and you literally have to scour the newspapers and web to find any reference at all.

Question is: how to raise more public awareness?

  • couldn't stop worrying about this so i phoned the Met and asked about this incident and the lady in the control room searched all incidents on that day and couldn't find any involving a cyclist in that area on that morning - other than a motorcyclist on New rd/commercial (not fatal)

will let you know if I find any info.

  • It'd be nice if Digger could contact the woman again and get the story verified. Looks like maybe we've been distressed without cause...

  • Will do.

  • urgh when i was on my way to the hospital today I saw a fatality witness board on Whitechapel High St appealing for witnesses for that same day, (marked 06.30am) possibly this incident :(

  • RIP Claire.

Cycle instructor dot com recently won a massive contract to give training to all TfL staff. If she has any worries tell her to get trained.

  • do the ctc or lcc not get notified of all cycling related fatalities and / or major traumas ?

how do they lobby effectively if they do not have all the info ?

one for oliver or charlie ?

We usually hear about all fatalities, but not always immediately.
