• There was a thread on this before where Momentum made some informative posts but I cant seem to search it out :( (found it)

I need to replace some bearings in a goldtec hub, Goldtec have informed me I need 6000 2RS 10mm x 26mm x 7mm. They cost £6, Goldtec postage is £5. That seems a bit steep to me (postage), so i wanted to find some cheaper online. However there dont seem to be any 7mm around, only 8mm. Anyone found any? Or think any London shops would be selling 7mm bearings?

  • theres loads of bearing suppliers on ebay, many of which can beat trade prices. You may even be able to upgrade to a set of ceramic bearings.

If you get stuck however, I have a bearing shop nearby me. Nice people, but they are not particularly cheap.

  • Cheers! yes i've had a look around, them problem is not finding them cheaper, its finding 10mm x 26mm x 7mm at all....

  • rakan, i am a printer, there are loads of bearing suppliers about, look in yellow pages,
also ask for stainless which will only cost maybe £2 more but will last 4/5 times as long.

  • 6000 are 8mm everywhere except the Goldtec website.

  • just remembered the local bearing suppliers on most high streets are called BSL.
    good luck.

  • Cheers murtle will have a look offline if I cant find a way online...

adoubletap - are you suggesting they might have made a mistake? Or that goldtec are just being different than everyone else again?

I just need to take the bearings out and see if it says anything on them, was hoping I could be lazy because someone would have done it before ;)

  • the best thing to do is take them out, then write all the numbers down, walk into a suppliers, and there ya go :)

  • Its like all skateboard wheel bearings are 608; the number relates relates to a specific set of dimensions. Depending on the manufacturer the reference may be printed/stamped on the shields.

  • the 8 mm will fit, only difference is that there will be 1mm step from the hub and bearing.

    +1

6000 is the set of measurements (bore x diameter x width) and 2RS specifies a rubber seal to each side of the bearing race.

    I got my SKFs here:

I'd check that measurement/spec on the bearing itself. You can search Simply Bearings using the 7mm BETD quote and no bearings are found.

10x26x7 is a fairly common Oil Seal spec, however.

  • after fucking around trying to find other phil wood bearings and hitting dead ends, it'd just get the ones from them ie BETD in this case. not that expensive, maybe ask them to put in envelope and send normal mail or ask paul from freshtripe if he can get them.

great people to deal with, got a replacement axle for a hub last year.

    don't go ceramic

  • Just pulled the bearings out of my Goldtecs and they're different sizes... The rear bearings (6001) are larger in diameter than the front, is it me or is that weird/plain wrong?

  • It's you Joe. ;p

  • Aksherley, just rang up Goldtec and they run 6000 on the front and 6001 on the back... So, touché... :)

  • same as the bloody bolts annoy me, 6mm rear and a 5mm front. why can't they just use the fecking same???

  • Make sure you get the right ones back in the right hubs Jo, else you will only be able to ride backwards....

  • minor hijack, anyone have any replacement socket cap screws for front goldtec hubs (M6x20mm)? was just going to buy from screwfix but don't really need 50 of 'em.

    Got 12.9 grades?

  • I've got a new 120mm axle for a Goldtec hub that currently has a 130mm one.

Has anyone ever done this swap before? Do I just knock the old one out with a mallet?

I'm not sure if I'm going to need a bearing press or not.

  • yup, i just bashed mine out, only need to do one side. just be careful bashing the bearing back in.

  • I had loads of fun replacing the bearings on my Goldtec :D

  • I've done it, it was a piece of piss... And I am probably one of the most cack-handed bike mechanics on here..

  • Cheers guys, I'll have a crack at it tonight.

Aidan - where's did you get your replacement bearings from?

  • I just replaced the bearings for my front Goldtec Hub, from SJS.
    Think you need 6001.
You do need to get a bit medieval on its ass.
