  • Watch someone riding park or street, look at the amount of disaster to tyre tap/abubaca combinations. The wheels definitely take a lot more abuse from angles that you would not see in general use of a track bike.

We are talking about fixed gear 700c bikes here though.

Fixed gear riding has moved on at last if people are doing disasters, tyre taps and the like. I still just see people spinning their bars around a bit with the occasional 180 rollout out thing.

Plus, my tyre taps were always a thing of finesse which would cause no undue stress on the bike...

  • actually we're talking about 26" street bikes.

project ns suburban 99% of the way completed
had a first ride round the block today not going crazy feels nice, light front end, nippy handling just need to spend some time on it and get used to it
just need to remove everything and tighten it all up put it back together and .... some street riding to come

what do you think to track dropouts with a single speed and a QR with chaintugs does anyone think i'll get slippage of the back wheel ? will the QR bolt be strong enough to hold the back wheel ?

  • actually we're talking about 26" street bikes.

oops, that is a different matter then. I was put off by the picture up there ^^ of the fixed bike (which I think looks very good). Bit of cross purposes, apologies all.

  • Definitely not talking about fixed wheel tricks.

NS have just started making that fixed frame. They've been in the 24 & 26 street/park/dirt market for some time and their bikes hold up well.

  • For the avoidance of doubt, I do not endorse fixed wheel tricks.

  • For the further avoidance of doubt, FixedMX or whatever the fuck it is currently being called is lame.

  • That's the 24" version, I thought you had the 26?

  • yeah thats just giving an impression of the look
i went for the 26 with rigid forks
would it look silly with a layback on it ?

  • For someone your height probably not.
Depends how low you want to run the saddle though.

  • My majesty is now finished rideable, still need to order the proper chainset and I think I'm going to swap the XTR Vbrake to an avid disk.

Pictures will follow at some point in the future.

  • If you are selling the brake calliper I'll take it please Em.

Doing BMX tricks on a fixed gear is the new doing BMX tricks on a mountain bike.

Lucky I don't do BMX tricks on a mountain bike then.

Not a chance in hell I'm afraid, I'll be swapping the XTR straight onto another bike.

    Project NS
    26" Suburban

not 100% there but very close just some minor tidying up to do

  • Looking good Dicki.

  • finally finished have done a few big rides in the last two days
really nice bike ... took a few miles to get used to the geo but now i am fully dialled in and it feels great

  • You went for Saint in the end - nice!

How are long distances on that though?

  • decided on the saint cranks ... went for high end, and buy once, strategy and it will all be transferable to other bikes in the future they also look nice :-}
the frame is nice and stiff and confidence inspiring, but with that little bit of steel flex, feels really nice

seated position isn't ideal did stratford to brixton brixton to wandsworth wandworth to kings road central and back to strattie yesterday legs were a bit aching by the time i got home

may try and find a layback of some sort to push me back a bit on the bike a bit and improve the seated position but apart from that couldn't be happier

have a similar problem on my stove, was thinking about 400mm thomson super layback post but not sure if lays back enough - let me know if you find anything better

  • Just got a cheap cassette ss wheel for my od azonic frame.... but frame dropouts are 10mm and axles on new wheel are 14mm....does anyone still sell slotted 14mm axles?

  • or will i have to file the axle...

  • Angle grinder is your friend.

i think its underwhelming compared to the rest of their line up but then i dont like fixed gear freestyle that much
