  • Yeah, the Basil looks a bit big and OTT for my needs, especially if it's steel. Hadn't looked at Wald, so thanks for the advice!

  • Ended up getting a Pletscher VM rack - apparently NOS from the 60s, made in Switzerland. They clamp onto the fork crown and look very well made so I had to give it a try

  • Steel.

They weigh a bit. But I have no similar ali rack to compare to so...

Strong enough to carry people on though.

If weight is a concern, maybe you don't want a front rack?

Woops didn't notice there was another page.

  • not a porteur rack, but has anyone seen these in the flesh: http://www.charliethebikemonger.com/pdw-portland-design-works-takeout-basketrack--bag-1245-p.asp

They have them in Keep Pedalling, tempted to get one for the steamroller.

  • well stay tempted... i've just ordered one from charlie, if i don't fancy it i'll give you first refusal...!

  • Works for me!

  • i need a basil memories rack but need the max weight to be nearer 30kg

I've been very tempted by one of these as well.... What do you think of it???

Dunno what the official max weight is, but mine can and has carried fully grown adults.

  • i need one to carry my dog

  • If the dog is appropriately sized to fit on the rack (in a carrier or something I presume?) then I can't see it being too heavy for the rack.

  • Dredge...

Anyone got a recommendation for a rack under 100sheets that I can mount a wine crate onto...?
Something like GAMOH PORTEUR FRONT RACK in price and design but it has to be silver.

    Anyone...?

  • At my work yesterday, there came in a package of batavus with their new front rack, which is mounted by the wheels and through the brakehole. Shall make a picture soon, it looked nice.

Someone should buy one of these and report back. not sure i need one but could be pursuaded if someone told me they were good haha

Yeah, thats how my front rack attaches. Works pretty good. a bit fidley to set up, but pretty solid.

    Picture of it here.

  • UUUUUUber dredge but since this was the only thread I could find that discussed the basil memories rack I thought it was the most appropriate to post in.
I just bought a basil rack yesterday with the idea of fitting it on the SSMTB utility bike I'm currently building. I assembled it according to the instructions but even on the lowest possible height setting the bar mounts are way too high. In the first post it looks as though the OP has mounted the bar mounts upside down, assuming that I could manage to get the basil to fit that way, would it be safe? Anyone have any experience fitting a basil memories rack that way?
