I tried to convince my boss it'd be a good idea to send me to the Apple certified technician course... After 7 days and £3k with some loose change I would be able to fix as many Macs as he and his bosses like for free... As a university (company) we have to send Apple machines back to Apple or an Apple certified technician, all of them charge according to Apple's price list...
Bossman says no... boo...

Them are the T&C, Apple apparently conduct random check and if you are caught out then you'd have to pay the difference...
Apparently...

A colleague of mine broke the screen on his MBP and was quoted £400. He did it himself for £50 following a guide on iFixit or somewhere.

BQ, yeah that's great, here's the guide for replacing the screen on a Mac book Air
https://www.ifixit.com/Guide/MacBook+Air+13-Inch+Mid+2011+Display+Assembly+Replacement/6361Something that you would be confident doing?

The ifixit guides are good but their description of screw size/lengths didn't match the inside of my iphone 4. They also miss off reassembly steps/tips and just say 'reverse the steps', which isn't always so obvious when you're worried about how much force/etc to use.

If you bought the screen the Asian lad who fixes phones in the Atlantic Road entrance to Granville Arcade could probably do it... He was fixing an iPad when I popped in to see him the other week, he was charging £70 and that included the replacement screen...
Worth a punt...

I just got a brand spanking 15" MBP Retina after a decade of ebay/refurb store powered mac ownership. #boastpoast
I'll be getting a soft case/sleeve type thing for general transportation, but I was also thinking of a clip-on plastic something like this:
(do a click)Anyone use these and know do they deal with/affect the heat of the computer? Worth having?

Ios8 pulled.

isn't it just 8.0.1 that got pulled not the whole thing?

• #6661
sorry yep.

The speck cases are awesome, I'll never own a laptop without one. Saved my friend laptop (same as yours) recently when his assistant dropped it. Not had any heat issues with my air, but you could always get a cooling tray if you are worried.

In the process of dragging my shitty imac at work through history. This morning it was on 10.5.8, then 10.6.3, now 10.6.8. Downloading the great leap to Mavericks now. And then I can finally get some modern CS on here. So excited.

@Tenderloin order the 13" MBP retina online on the edu site in HK for £725.
I ordered my Mac the same way in the UAE. Didn't need a university email address or anything...

The matt black click on cases for retina MBP are excellent. I've had one on mine for nearly a year now with no issues. Well made and they fit very well. worth the money for sure.

Awesome thanks mate! I'm off to HK spring next year, so I will do this then.
I ended up just getting an iPad as for now that's the most sensible thing

Apple are always the most expensive repair quoters... would of thought you could get it for half that from some random shop.
