  • i wouldnt buy a mini 5 - mini 6 is due to be replaced soon, wait for 6 prices to drop

  • Late 2013 27" iMac that I need rid of. Taking up space. £100 if anyone wants it. Amazing screen, just no space. Comes with wireless keyboard.

  • My parents iMac just died. Is this working OK? Definitely interested if it's running ok. They won't use it for anything other than browsing the internet or playing solitaire ha.

  • It runs perfectly. No dead pixels or scratches on screen at all. Updated to latest supported OS.
Keyboard is old style wireless with AA batteries. Only reason it has to go is partner can’t use latest Final Cut.

  • and if you do the open legacy patcher you can even install sonoma!

  • I think my parents would be interested if Cazakstan passes. Similar situation in that theirs has just died too.

  • I would love to take this. Will PM.

@amey I am not sure they would notice any difference :D my mum just asked if they could move stuff from the dead machine to this one. I asked what type of stuff.. "gas bills, banking, emails."

  • I’m getting old. I had no idea this was a thing. What’s the performance impact like?

@Cazakstan no problemo, just give me a shout.

@Trunkie will update if anything changes.

  • The mini 5 should still get another couple of years of updates.

Many are viewing yesterday’s release of a new iPad Pencil and nothing else as an indication that there isn’t going to be an iPad update this year, as Apple likes to group these things.

  • With my Air Pod Pro's, sound shifts to the right ear if I turn my head to the left and shifts to the left ear when I turn my head to the right - this only happens during FaceTime calls, and when watching youTube videos, not during normal calls or while using the Music app etc.

What is this, and how can I turn it off, please?

  • Spatial audio. In headphone settings.

  • Thank you!
That wasn't turned on actually, but your comment made me google some more in this direction; turns out there's a sub-setting of this you can access via pressing & holding the volume bar in control center - it then offers to switch "head tracking" on or off 👍
    Thanks again!

  • yes i'm interested in this too ... what is it

It's funny how @amey is suddenly team Hackintosh :P

  • oi! when was I NOT team hackintosh?

I did that to my dad's 2015 imac only to enable screen mirroring from my MBP, was so easy to install. Make sure you dont accept any updates from Apple via System Settings once finished.

  • anyone want an otterbox case for 14 pro? just pay postage/ collect for free in se6

  • Just updated my Macbook pro to Ventura, via open core.

Sounds like a stupid question but should I still see the instal drive thing at every boot up?

  • Is there a friendly “I can put a new hard drive in there damo” place in se London?h

  • Laptop or desktop

  • Apple Watch folks: any trick to bringing a dead-on-arrival watch back to life?

Context: picked up a sealed-in-box Series 6 for a good price, knowing it has been sat for approx 3 years. Opened it up and no charge as you’d expect, but also doesn’t respond to being placed on a charger in any way, besides getting warm. Hard reset has done nothing and the folks at the store today didn’t want to even look at it as it’s beyond the two year statutory warranty period (despite never being activated).

So, anything I can do before returning it to the seller? Will get my money back no problem as it’s a reputable seller and I paid by PayPal, but would love to keep it if I can somehow wake it up - it’s destined to become e-waste otherwise and that sucks.

  • How long have you left it on the charger for? I've spent hours bringing an old watch back to life. Some mix of leaving it and periodically disconnecting it from the charger eventually worked.

The other thing I tried that seemed like it did something was sticking it in the fridge/freezer while charging, because it appeared to be overheating and no longer trying to charge.

  • To echo Grams, I had an Apple Pencil that I thought was dead, absolutely would not charge, so I abandoned it (attached to my iPad) and bought another. Turned out that being attached to the iPad for days managed to get enough charge into it that when I came back to it a Lazarus like change was found.

I'd therefore stick it on the charger for a week and then come back to it.

  • Same here, my wife picked up a pencil two at her workplace lost and found (after the required waiting period) and brought it home. I stuck it on my iPad and announced it doa. After about a week I got an alert on my screen that it was now 100% charged. Unfortunately I’ll never use it (originally got one with the ipad, sold it on in one of the few instances where I lost no money in such a transaction). I guess I could try and sell this one, but there’s no packaging with it. Anyone here interested? I’m in Canada, so I’d charge shipping plus $10, fair?

  • shipping plus $10, fair?

    fair - I'd love it!
