And just buy the olderM1 inventory that goes to ‘refurb’ stock and save money.
Will be surprised if anyone notices the change between M1 andM2 unless doing serious heavy lifting computer tasks.
It’s not going to be like going from power hungry and hot intel to M1 -

Do you have any specs?

I've got a really old ipad mini, i'm locked out of it, I can't connect it to a device with itunes.
What do I do here? All I want to do is turn it on, delete all apps, and set it up as a safe sensory play device. -

Considering getting an iPad Pro. We’ll mainly use it for photo editing - Lightroom + capture one.
Will an m1 refurb be plenty enough, or is it worth the £300ish extra for the m2?
-

M1 will be fine. I edited 26mp raws though Lightroom on my old one no problem.
Not tried it on an iPad, but my M1 mini with 16gb ram handles 130mb raw files from my GFX camera no problem.
I’m not surprised Apple are going after the gaming market now. These new chips kick arse.

Good, that’s my thinking too
Tbh I edit raw files from my Q1 on my iPhone 13 with no issue, so an m1 should do ok :)

Had to downgrade my M1 from Ventura 13.4 (which I had installed Friday) to 13.3.1 since they apparently broke video playback for me. Was experiencing hanging or (once paused) unresumable YT videos with spiking cpu usage. Luckily restoring my 13.4 TM backup (my old one was too old so I simply got a new backup from scratch) on top of the USB-installed 13.3.1 worked - barring some cli issues, fixed by manually (re)installing Rosetta.
A special FU to the guys at Apple who don't make the installer .dmg links available for older versions, but apparently the link (pointing to Apple's CDN) can be found in 3rd party websites (osxdaily).
Another special mention to Apple having their users mess with cli to copy an OS installer to USB in 2023. At least there's a special script for it in the installer bundle (
createinstallmedia
) so no messing withdd
is required this time.Took quicker than anticipated, only two Netflix TDF episodes. (My docker images are lost, but IDGAF because it's the beauty of Docker)

I wonder whether they will release hardware 3D paintbrushes next year

Not to mention the Apple factor. Almost every big thing Apple has done to date has triggered a flurry of activity in the competing markets. Look at how many different smart phone/tablet/watch/wireless headphone brands there are today. And Gorilla Glass is on pretty much every consumer piece of touch screen hardware. The agility and responsiveness of global tech supply chains is insane these days. I bet every major tech company will have some kind of AR hardware in the next few years, and that will be in no small part thanks to Apple doing it.

You could do this through the terminal using software update until very recently
softwareupdate --list-full-installers;echo;echo "Please enter version number you wish to download:";read;$(if [ -n "$REPLY" ]; then; echo "softwareupdate --fetch-full-installer --full-installer-version "$REPLY; fi);
But even that seems to be borked now, lol.
I quite like (
createinstallmedia
), at least it works. For the moment.Do you know if the YT video issue is MX specific?

Bah. The refurb place I found just upped their prices from £600 to £800 😩
£600 for an 12.9" M1 felt like a good deal. £800 is on the verge

Nice. Yes
createinstallmedia
beatsdd
(and differences between GNU and bsd dd, if any) and all the iso tool stuff tbh.Not sure about the YT issue, but all the reports I've seen about the other 13.4-specific video issues (high FPS videos failing to decode and so on, but none concerning YT) seems to be on Apple Silicon.

You haven't seen the Game Porting Kit I assume?
-
• #20340
Oh I have. Proves my point. I look forward to Apple making a game controller, seeing what the design heads throw at that.

seeing what the design heads throw at that.
But with a second button at the other end.

Lol. You think there’ll be another one button mouse/no delete key senario again?

Does anyone know if there is a dynamic / live wallpaper for macOS that is like the sunrise-to-sunset one (below) - but monochrome?
As in: changing the background from a light grey to a very dark grey thoughout the day?
Or could I make my own somehow?

Any recommendations for alternative AirPod pro tips? I get a good seal with the L tip in my left ear, however it tends to work looser the longer I wear it. Can’t get a good seal with any of the tips in my right ear; I couldn’t use EarPods/ standard AirPods as they always fell out of my right ear.
Comply seems to the standard alternative, although their pricing seems to take the piss a bit.

I bought a multi size pack of generic "Comply" tips from eBay and then settled for the medium size. I've real Comply tips for a pair of B&O earphones and to be fair, the knock offs aren't that far off and work, for a fraction of the price.

Hey apple fans, got a question. I want to get a standalone computer for photo editing and music production, because my early 2015 MBP has been through heavy use and is very full and now struggles with these kind of tasks. So, thinking about trying to hunt down an older iMac that I can use just for these purposes – can't spring for a new gen one but I see older second hand ones about a lot, so I was wondering, is there any era of iMac that might not be the flashiest in the world anymore but would be particularly good for these sort of tasks compared to others? Thanks.

Can you wait until the M2 iMacs come out then pick up a reduced M1 version?
I can’t imagine buying an intel chip mac now given how all the new stuff only works on the Apple architecture and everything is being optimised in that direction.

This. If you can, get an m1. Even base spec is plenty enough for what you need
Yes*
*can you message pics and specs please?
