Got my 14"MBP earlier this week, quite a switch coming from windows for the past 10 years but with M1 it didn't make sense to stay on x86 hardware. Mostly settled in now, only thing I really hate is the Magic Mouse I bought with the 150 voucher that came as part of the educational program, returning it and plan to get a trackpad to see if that's any better.
Work's mostly Illustrator and Fusion (patterning soft goods) plus some Lightroom + Photoshop for the social media side of things. I'm not crazy about how Fusion runs, although part of the struggle must have been to the Magic Mouse being extremely unsuitable for CAD work. I'm hoping the trackpad plus some BetterTouchTool wizardry will make things better, and there's a hub incoming so I can use my 3D Connexxion mouse again.

I have the same MacBook and mine ended up the same, ended up having it repaired due to a dif problem and it came back much faster. Maybe me think it was build up of dust on the fans. Same thing with an older 2012.

Might want to give the mouse a but more time. I love mine, find it really comfortable but it doesn't seem to be for everyone. I've tried a lot of options and for navigating macOS and apps adapted to macOS it's really good. The horizontal scroll is a must.
That said I've been tempted on a trackpad to just to mix things up

Get an MX master 3. There is no other choice

Had it just been the functional I might have persisted a while more, but my hand's cramped to fuck after just two days. It's a strong no from me.
@Soul Yeah that could be a good shout, was feeling a bit Apple pilled but any BT mouse would do. But I'm really enjoying the trackpad gestures so I think just having the same in a more ergonomic place will be the ticket.

Yes yes. Fuck Magic Mice, useless shite

Will see if I get my refund as Apple Store credit or cold hard cash and then decide based on that. At least it's nice that the MX Master 3 looks very reasonable priced now, when I looked at it a couple years ago I couldn't believe people pay that for a mouse.

Wacom.
not used a mouse for 20 years.
would go trackpad if i was to buy another input device for a mac. -

During my studies I worked with an aerodynamics engineer who used a Wacom for everything, including panning zooming and rotating his CAD model, I've been curious since. But I can't draw for shit and I couldn't live with a constant reminder of the gaping hole in my skillset as a 'designer' in front of me.
Swayed me back to trackpad, I bet all the Logitech fans are in IT.

I developed a problem from using the Magic Mouse so switched to a rollermouse. Pretty decent alternative but OS integration with the trackpad is brilliant.

Not a tech bro, but got a 2s for <£40 in the last Amazon sale.
I love it. It's fucking great.

got work to buy me a small wacom a couple of years ago, and haven't looked back, does make it really difficult to go back to using track pads though..

Worse. Marketing 😬
Seriously though, the MX Master 3 is the best device for the working with a mac. Mapping expose and desktop switching makes it super quick to navigate.
You can then set each of the (many) buttons to have custom actions depending on which app you’re in.

I've tried to get into using wacom pads a few times over the years but I really don't get on with them. I'm a video editor and when I first started using avid pretty much every avid editor used one. For anything other than writing and drawing I find a mouse far more intuitive.

it is funny watching people pick the pen up.
awkward, clumsy and no idea of it’s potential

As the Magic Mouse (gotta love macOS autocorrect for capitalising this) is back to Apple I’m exclusively using the trackpad and I’m starting to think a real mouse is more my thing. Ordered an opened box Master 3 for €45, worth a shot. Thanks all for your input.

I still need to get the keyboard replaced but i might have missed the boat on it, I will chance my arm. Ive upgraded to Monterey and its been a pain tbh as ive lost programs i owned and paid for that dont work now on it and refuse to buy the new version.
Guess its off to there mac store when i come back next week.

But off piste, but my missus is looking for a laptop rucksack, and she’s seen this one.
https://nordace.com/en/product/nordace-siena-smart-backpack/I think it might be a bit big. Any thoughts on this or recommendations for laptop rucksacks that you can then use as your carry on for slightly longer travel/flights
Thanks
