Open Activity Monitor and sort by CPU percentage to see if anything's burning CPU.

Do people do this with MacBook Pro's as well?
No, they just sell it and buy a new one. It's the Apple way.
(Yes, Macs are not immune to dust, compressed air works quite well on them.)

Thank you all for your feedback!
@grams there was a daemon called "deleted", bit of a peculiar one it seems, using 30% CPU.
I rid it for now. -

Edit: sorted it. Not really sure how I did it, but I got to a high Sierra install screen finally
Stupidly formatted the OS drive for my Mac Pro 2010 (that I've just replaced with a m1 mini). No idea why I did it, but I now need to install a new OS and can't get hold of a Mojave installer anywhere. App Store just takes me to the system upgrade pane on the Mac I'm trying to download it on (either my m1 or my mbp). I just want to download the installer and make a bootable drive!Any ideas how I can do this? the Mac Pro doesn't seem to be booting in to startup disc selection mode or safe mode with either its OG gfx card or the upgrade one, but I might not be waiting long enough (its had a Metal firmware upgrade).

A relative has passed away and I need to get access to an iPhone that I don't have the passcode for. We have the passcode for an iPad connected to the same iCloud account and my email is the recovery email for the iCloud account.
I've googled and the only way seems to be to reset and erase the iPhone and then restore from iCloud. Is there any way we can do it without risking content? Not sure how much is actually backed up to iCloud.

Cheers man, I did find that site looking up that deamon (actually linked in my post above : ) yet it's a bit unclear where it comes from / why it remains there, and keeps using 30% CPU..
..for a lot of people the culprit apparently was the app "iStat", or the "about this mac" window (??), which wasn't the cause for me. -

Contact Apple and explain the prob. We had this v recently with a forgotten logon on my daughters old ipad. Took about three months to sort it so be patient.

So just got my new iPhone set up and signed into iCloud etc, is there a way to sync photos from phone to iCloud without having the old photos from the old phone downloaded to the new phone?
Those and old messages are the 2 things I don’t want/need on my new phone.
Thanks.

Photos won’t be downloaded automatically. Usually your historic photos will just sit in the cloud and will be downloaded only when you want to view a high res version.
For example, I’ve got thousands of photos and videos on iCloud - all available when I scroll through, but they’re not stored locally until i need them.
Messages are the same…

Right OK, so they are just previews? That makes senses... gonna turn it back on now then... 😁
Thank you kindly!

I have a new 16" and it's great and all. But when I plug in my BenQ SW2700PT 27 Inch Monitor (bought in 2017) the monitor profile I have always used make the external monitor look over saturated. If I switch to Adobe RGB it looks pretty good, but if I reconnect the monitor, it looks over saturated again, even when still set to adobe rgb. If I switch profile and back again it looks good, but as a professional photographer, it's far from ideal.
Any ideas for a fix? It's the same when using hdmi or usb-c > display port connections.

anyone updated to monterey 12.0.1?
my macbook pro keeps prompting me to, and I can't think of a reason to. -

Yeah - just bought an m1 mini and upgraded while I was caught up in the excitement of firing up a fresh machine. No fiery death so far.
(But I probably would have waited if I wasn’t off my face on whatever it is makes new macs smell like that)

not quite the same issue but i think Eizo CG graphics monitors have an issue where you need to use an older mac and copy and paste the profile from one machine to another.
i would expect a fix from BenQ/ Eizo/Apple soon.
have you tried colour confidence? they will likely know of the issue, there is an Eizo dealer (and likely BenQ) in australia who were always up to date on their blog with profiling etc but im afraid i cant remember their name. -

3 days ago. So far so good. Using Adobe ps,il,id, xx + sketch and the other usual suspects.
Everything is very bubbly and colourful. Not sure I like it

I’m not sure if this has always happened…
But since upgrading to Monterey on a 2018 Mac mini, emptying the trash takes for ever. When deleteing multi gig files it takes minutes to complete.I’m sure it used to be near instantaneous.
I have a a MacBook Air and older Mac mini server, neither on Monterey and the trash deletes quickly as expected.
The secure delete function is no longer available in Monterey so not sure what else to try.

Anyone into old macs?
I've got a late 2008 aluminium unibody macbook that I've been using for a while. Still surprisingly competent; I've upgraded it to 8GB of RAM and a 500GB SSD.
However I've finally treated myself to a new one.
Any advice on where to sell it?

Any iMacs knocking about not getting used?

Yes, Mac Mini — no problems at all

I have one but...it is old. Perfect cosmetically however.

Would need to be newer than my 2012 MBP ideally
I have done, more than a few times. Keep the screws in the correct order when you take them out.
