MacBook Air won’t turn on. I’ve tried all the suggested tricks online. Anything I can do short of taking it in?
-

Have you googled all the weird keyboard combinations you can press to reset all sorts of things?
Could be worth giving apple a call before going in?

Don’t tempt me! Saving to buy a bloody house!!! 😂
I wonder how much the top specs 6.5inch will be...

Yeah - I’ve tried all of those. My wife has taken it in. Expecting to be arrested around lunchtime (joke).
If it’s fucked, presumably the data can be retrieved? Thankfully I back it up fairly regularly but there’s two weeks of work I need stored on it.

As it's a macbook air I assume you can't remove the internal hdd (?), so it needs to boot to at least target mode if you want to be able to restore anything. You can't be the first with this issue though so I bet google will help

boot to at least target mode
Yea that would be my strategy to get data off there even if the thing is pretty fucked.

Cheers guys. Hopefully it can be resolved.
So the PC I’ve exposed to streaming and illegal downloads over the past four years is running fine and the Mac that I’ve looked after is gubbed after three.
Good old Apple.

How did you care for you macbook air though? My macbook pro is lugged around, spends time on shoots and are occasionally used as glorified ipad by my kids. I'm amazed it has lasted the three years since I got it

MBA is still the best laptop Apple have ever made IMO. Mine is ticking along without a problem, touch wood. The day it dies will be a sad day. Not really inspired by any of the devices Apple make anymore... And I probably wouldn't buy another MBA because they're so out of date.

Reallllllly hope a revised Mini is released, would love a headless Mac with 15inch MBP internals.
-
• #13114
Is it just me or are the new MBP about £500 more than last gen? Looking at base 15" and it just feels a lot more expensive than 3 years ago. Not that weird perhaps as things have moved on...

I've had mine in permanently for the last 2 years without issue, but it stores non crucial stuff, photos/media etc which isn't accessed regularly, and isn't particularly precious.

What was the pound worth against the dollar then, and what is it now?
Although you may well be using Euro/Kroner with that said.

Good point that

Rarely leaves the house to be honest. Apple stuff generally seems to last so maybe I’ve been unlucky.
-
• #13119
That's a bit pants then isn't it. I'd be curious to hear what apple says about it and if they can recover the data

My bottom of the range 2014 Macbook Air is still going strong. It only struggles when I try and run too many versions of my IDE at once. I recently bought a newer Macbook Pro with a bigger screen and more power but even Spotify seems to send the cooling fans into overdrive.

• #13121
They have went up a lot even the 13"s
-
• #13122
The hing on my 2011 MBP is developing play is there anywhere that fixes these? Im guessing it needs the full unit just trying to figure out if its worth spending money on something so old now.

• #13123
Pray you don’t need a hardware repair. Sadly the MBA is a paperweight when anything goes wrong.

Anyone managing to pay less than the £50 pm for Adobe Creative Suite for commercial work? If so how?

I had a bottom specs MBA 11inch that got stolen during a break in... still wanna replace it like for like as it’s the best laptop I have had price and weight and size combination! I bet it’s still going strong for whoever bought it from the black market! 😒😤
Bring it on, my 6S has turned in to a flickering mess the last couple of weeks
