iPhone SE felt quicker and smoother on iOS 11, lovely.

My iMac (i7 I think, 2014 approx) has been behaving oddly and slowing down dramatically. I suspect the 1 TB HD is on its way out.
I've cloned the drive to an external and am now looking at replacing the internal drive. Anyone done it themselves? Or can recommend someone? Worth going SSD?
-
• #11829
If your thinking of going to the hassle of swapping the drive Id go SSD for booting and programs and put another drive for storage in it too.

is this part of the let's-pick-ios11-apart trend thing?
^ that's pretty sloppy though

Why would the third one be "off" it looks "on"?
Actually isn't that just wrong?
edit: yep, those status work in context, but not in those flats, which I think are incorrect. The first one is "blocked/disabled" due to Airplane mode being enabled, which isn't shown correctly. The second is manually switched off. The third is on. Or have I missed something here?
-
• #11833
Nah, for the most part, it's all very nice but also subjective...
I think those toggles in notification center will probably confuse a lot of people into thinking they've turned bluetooth & wifi off when in fact it just disconnects them. To switch them off, you still have to go into settings. -

From left to right:
Crossed out icons mean wifi/bt are switched off in settings.
Non-crossed out icons means both are actually on but not connected to anything.
Blue icons means they are connected.
You cant actually switch these things on/off in control center.

You sure about that BRO? Because it looks, feels and works like I am turning my bluetooth on and off from control centre when I press the icon.
-
• #11836
If you hold down on one of the icons it will take you to another screen (attached) and give you more information. Although it says Bluetooth is not connected it does still act exactly like it did before and turns WiFi and Bluetooth on and off.

Ok, so switch it off in control center and then have a look in settings...

There's a new SE soon. Case will be the iPhone 5, internals essentially will be iPhone 7.

Is anyone looking for a practically new (2 week old) iPhone 6 (64gb) -- got it as a replacement warranty phone but it's surplus.

From Daring Fireball
In iOS 11 and later, when you toggle the Wi-Fi or Bluetooth buttons in
Control Center, your device will immediately disconnect from Wi-Fi and
Bluetooth accessories. Both Wi-Fi and Bluetooth will continue to be
available, so you can use these important features:AirDrop
AirPlay
Apple Pencil
Apple Watch
Continuity features, like Handoff and Instant Hotspot
Instant Hotspot

Due an upgrade now but gonna wait for a while before doing so... is the 8 worth a punt or is the X the one? Using a 6 at the mo
-
• #11844
Personally the 8 seems better value and is actually a bit quicker than the X as it’s not having to deal with 3x the pixels... Also, Touch ID. I use it as an Oyster card so face ID just seems bananas in that scenario.
-
• #11845
It sounds like supply of the X is going to be very limited, you might have to wait a long time.
-
• #11846
I said I wouldn't but I will probably change my mind to sit in front of my computer at 7:50 on 27 Oct... not really due for an upgrade as such but if the supply of the x is as limited as the media predicted then I don't want to wait till spring to get a mid cycle iPhone...
-
• #11847
Whatever I get it's gonna be a step up... thinking the 8 might be the way forward... although it doesn't look that different to the 6

You're all fucking crazy...

Not Mac related question, but whatever. What will happen when I downgradge my Dropbox? Will all the already there files still be there that I can download? That's what Dropbox says I can no longer upload exceeding the storage limit but whatever was there will still be there. All too good to be true and I don't want to have to pay ransom to release those files.
6s feels slightly snappier after updating which is counter to my expectations. Safari especially feels more responsive and the app switching animation seems less prone to those “wait, what?” moments.
Digging the bolder font weight they’ve used everywhere, too. Much kinder on the eyes, although the GIANT HEADERS are a bit pointless.
