  • I'd try going to a store anyway. If the battery is swollen you could argue it's not safe, and if they already know if's one of a failing batch then they might just swap you for free.

  • It shouldn't make any difference, no?

Just spoke to one of their authorised dealers here in Berlin, they told me I'd have to pay.
Will try the official apple store though.

    Thanks for the feedback everybody!

  • Might be worth checking that you haven't bent the phone, I've seen that before on a 5 and the glass was lifted up in the bend corner.

  • Actually on hold with extremely nauseating pop music for 15 mins now
    FML

  • Yea it did fell on the (upper left) corner, where the glass pops out the most - though does not really look bent.

Also I'm thinking it could be the battery as it's within the range of affected serial numbers, and also it's getting worse (glass popping out of the frame a lot more now compared to two weeks ago..)
..it now comes out of the frame along most of the left side of the frame, not only at the edge..

  • Actually on hold with extremely nauseating pop music for 15 mins now

..after 25 mins I'm being told I can't have phone support, as I do not have a phone support contract (€ 29.90)

  • Just had to replace laptop after it died right as the warranty ended, retailer was a total boss though and gave me a full credit for it. Spent ages looking about after last windows ultrabook was a bit of a disappointment. Was swinging toward new mbp 13", but only redeeming features seem to be very fast ssd and nice build quality? Everything else seemed very lacking.
Ended up with an Asus zenbook 3 flip, similar spec to the mbp i5/16gb 1800px screen, but looses the fast ssd, but more vibrant and accurate screen but not quote as bright 340 instead of 480 nits. Build quality excellent, between a mb and a mbp in thickness and weight, battery I'm getting 8-12 hours. Price, £900 rrp with 3 year warranty. Happy with that! Widows 10 though...

  • Some twats broke into my flat and stolen my Macs along with many things. And Find my iPhone / Mac is, according to Apple, a joke... because all it takes is 10 seconds for someone who has my Macs to override it.

Been looking on ebay, gumtree, and local dodgy shops, anywhere I might see my Macs?

Anyway, this gives me time to think if I want to replace my Mac with the 2016 models, or am I better off insisting the insurer to look for the same 2015 model for me? or I might just switch to Window altogether...

  • How do they over ride it without knowing your iCloud password?

Also, go 2016, new laptops are mint, just too expensive.... you might come out on top here.

  • My data is password protected so they can't go into my accounts etc, but all they need to do is to wipe the computer in Internet recovery and set the machine as brand new, bobs your uncle. I kind of knew it would be the case and then I spent an hour or so on the phone with Apple and they confirmed that it is the case - Find my Mac only works with iCloud logged in, and not the actual serial number of the machines, so as soon as a machine is wiped clean, it's bye bye forever... This also explains why my old iPhone and iPads were taken, because iCloud works much better with them and I can remotely brick them, totally different with a computer... so I was told by Apple...

Find my Mac hasn't been able to track neither of my Mac and it's been 3 weeks now, so I am pretty such they have been sold on now...

The insurer won't pay the full price of a new Pro, they will have to pay 100% for my Air as it's only about £800, but with the Pro they will only pay up to £1500 if I am lucky... A like to like specs replacement is about £2600 I think.

At least they are paying for my passport replacement and have waived the excess fees because it was a violent entrance...

  • :( this fuckin sucks balls. Sorry to hear this and hope you ain't too shaken up by it.

Stuff can be replaced, at least.

  • Fuck, how awful... I've been burgled a couple of times, it does indeed suck balls but like yer man says, it's only stuff... Hope you saved all your data OK...

  • Cheers guys, it was horrible without a front door for 2 days, they properly broken the doors and frames and I have 2 sets... what annoys me the most is they also took some cheap stuff that belonged to my mum and can't be replaced, that really hurts. The rest is just money...

Data is always backed up, probably lost a couple of weeks worth of editing / retouching stuff, some random pics / footage from my GoPro, no biggie.

The passport office is so far treating me like a bit of a criminal with getting the replacement because I wasn't born in the UK, nor were my parents, nor were my grandparents... but I have been a British Citizen since I was 7... 1st time I feel like I am not that welcome in this country.

Time will heal I am sure...

  • so my iPhone 5c (I know, I know) is messing up, automatic time and GPS are constantly incorrect. This seems to be a somewhat common fault, but the phone, from what I understand, is no longer supported by Apple, even though I haven't quite had it 2 years. I was looking to upgrade anyway. If I go to the Apple store and throw a hissy fit about it ask for compensation, due to unsatisfactory perfomace in the 'six year window' stipulated on Uk consumer Law. Do I have any chance of the £100 compensation Apple offer. has this happened to people before?

More on this fault here https://www.technobezz.com/fix-iphone-5c-showing-incorrect-time/

  • Question is, did you buy it from Apple directly as the original owner?

  • then you'd have to take the 6 years consumer law argument with the retailer, not Apple and good luck with that. I have never experienced a single retailer that is as open as Apple about honouring this law.

Unless it's a global recall than it's a different matter. Also consumer rights don't apply to unsatisfactory performance as it is a rather subjective thing. The law only really applies to manufacturer defaults etc... In any case, good luck with it.

  • the phone, from what I understand, is no longer supported by Apple

    This:
    https://support.apple.com/en-gb/HT201624

    Suggests otherwise, doesn't it?

  • you'd have to take the 6 years consumer law argument with the retailer, not Apple and good luck with that

I've had joy doing this. It's amazing what a letter before action can do.

I don't think it would work in this case though. The relevant law requires things to be 'fit for purpose'. Time and GPS messing up on a phone is annoying but doesn't make it unfit for purpose overall.

  • I'm not sure about that. The phone was advertised with GPS, GPS never worked, hence feature is not fit for sale.

Bit like how people got money back on PS3 when they removed the linux install feature years after release.

  • Right, I'm going to pull the trigger and get a new macbook pro. Had mine since 2009 but I'm going freelance as a photographer/cinematographer so need a new one that works.

I'm planning on going for the top spec 15" then upgrading the CPU and graphics card but not the SSD as I won't be storing much on it. I'll also get a couple of usb dongles and maybe a thunderbolt one.

Is there anything I'm missing in terms of getting the best most future proof spec possible without wasting money. (I know it's limited to 16GB ram, but I can't wait for a potential v2 sadly).

  • Did the same thing a few years ago, top spec everything but small SSD with the intention of storing things elsewhere. A year later I changed the SSD myself.
If you're spending all that money, you might as well save yourself the hassle of not being able to expand it later on.

  • I think the difference in processor speed is neglible compared to the benefit of more storage which in turn will allow the processor to work better with more free space. (as far as I understand)
I'm getting one too, but can't afford more then the basic 15" without any upgrades. :(

  • Interesting @drøn
I would hope to have at least half of the 512GB free at all times - I assume this is more than enough for optimum performance?

  • yes, it is.
