le car who can fix my macbook tmrw for cheap or free?
I need to installsome totally legally purchasedsoftware and it's giving me trouble (did a previous install and had a problem, so uninstalled but it wont let me re-reinstall now!)
Also have a slight problem with Linotype Font Explorer - anyone use this?If you want to uninstall something totally, open Finder, home directory, library, application support, find the folder for the app, trash it. Do the same but for the library folder in the macintosh hd directory. The only time you ever need to do it is when the software you've installed is not very well written.

that's a good application, i used to use the old free one on my old mac(unfortunately gotta pay for the new one), it gathers ALL the info in all folders for the application you want to remove and makes a satisfying ZAPP sound when it removes it...

asm Hmmm i think a RAM upgrade might be necessary for my macbook. Had it for a year now and it's been absolutely brilliant, but my current garageband compositions are stretching the RAM to the very limit... I think i might need to learn how to use some other sequencing/composing software :(.
Also does anyone know if it's possible to export songs from garageband in anything other than AIFF? The loss of quality from playing back in garageband to the export is laughable and i can't find any way whatsoever to change the export settings :(
...er sorry for the hijack
are you sure? AIFF (pros swear by it, along with SD2 and WAV) can be full on umcompressed quality it can go up to 192kHz/24bit so i guess it's your settings. you can think of upgrading to logic but it's just going to make your macbook feel even more sluggish and it's not as easy to use (by quite a fair amount) which depending what you do may not be necessary.

Seriously though, gotta love apple marketing. Smile, be confident, tell the user he doesnt need an optical drive. Or more than 1 USB port. Or a user-replaceable battery.
I'm not apple bashing, they make nice looking stuff. I'm sure its nice to use too, but they don't half love dictating consumer demands rather than catering to them. Guess thats the advantage of having a niche to yourself though ;)

Is a thinner laptop better?
-
• #114
well its lighter(probably) more portable and better looking so........maybe

1.36kg. By contrast, the lightest sony vaios are lighter, as well featured, have more USB ports AND have built-in DVDRW drives. It's a nice piece of design, and it's fricking thin, but its not my cup of tea - theres some things I'm not prepared to sacrifice for fashion.
-
• #117
isn't the lighter vaio a fair bit smaller screen?

i have to say as a long time mac user it does piss me off when people link macs to fashion... it's sort of like riding fixed and being called trendy when you're not in it for that reason.
i am actually a bit shocked to see apple going this direction. this reminds me of numerous pre-2000 PC notebooks, those damn external optical drives... well, see you in starbucks (condor pista classico?)

unless the 'thinner' bit is made 'stronger' then ... i don't know ... fucking leopard, is that thinner its certainly shitter. I'm fukd off with apples right now, keeping me in the office being a cnut.

I do like their UI with the trackpad moves: pinch, swipe, etc. That's neat. I'd still lose the fkn thing under a pile of
paperschocolate wrappers so it's no good for moi. -

not having an optical drive is quite a risky step.....

yes driving without eyes would be stupid, possibly sillier than without brakes.
