  • ..ah, shit, sorry - you said no memes in this thread

  • I think its the false colour that makes it look so fake

  • That and the lens flare.

  • ..aaand that rocket-thingy in the sky.

    Just kidding.

It's a great picture; pretty artifical looking though.

  • Rob, look up...

  • Tsukuba City, Japan (detail)
Photograph by Akira Takaue, Your Shot

  • Not going to lie, I don't get it.

The full version is better, but still lost on me.

  • Embedded the 'detail' one, as the original is so big it will be turned into a link on this forum.

    What's there to 'get' though.
    It's a picture.

  • Look very CGI, especially the traffic light.

  • Lake in Tanzania turns animals and birds to stone

Not sure I get this really, even though it's an awesome picture. I've got his other two books and I don't really see how these fit in since they are meant to be a series.

  • that lake turning animals to stone
hmmm is that for real ? they look a bit staged ?
lake magadi / natron etc are very alkaline but they don't turn animals to stone
i've seen the bbc flamingo specials where blocks of salt form around the ankles of the bird and stops them flying but they just end up looking like the mankiest of londons pigeons

    not convinced

    It is staged, he made no secret in that link;

I took these creatures as I found them on the shoreline, and then placed them in ‘living’ positions, bringing them back to ‘life’, as it were. Reanimated, alive again in death.

  • they still look too perfectly encrusted

  • So your hankie after you're done with it.

  • The reason they're so well preserved is to do with the specific alkaline ph of the water in the lake (in Tazmania if memory serves me correctly).

Memory may well serve you, but spelling doesn't. :)

    Should be "Tanzania".

  • KKK members in Louisiana. Real-life Cleetus on the right.

  • lakes natron magadi and nakuru along the kenya tanzania borders is where you find the alkali lakes
the town next to lake magai is a bit wild west ... lots of masai in the bars getting drunk
interesting industrial town in southern kenya .. spent a few days there watching the salt mining processes

  • csb
