This photo was taken in 1967 by Rocco Morabito. It's called The Kiss of Life.
J.D Thompson is the one giving the mouth to mouth, Randall G. Champion is the one who made contact.
Champion went on to live an extra 35 years and died in 2002.
Thompson is still alive today. -

Gezi Park, Istanbul, 14th June 2013, which has become a vibrant area of peaceful cultural gatherings and festivities just days after mass protests, police brutality and fighting. Now it seems people simply will not leave the park even after the prime minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan proposed a national referendum on the building of a shopping centre on the site. The Turkish people no longer trust their government and prime minister.

If they had any sense, they never did. Revolutions happen, though, when people no longer fear their government.

More images of Turkish Police brutality here. Be warned - some pretty disturbing images, particularly some of people who have lost eyes!

Apologies for posting a tumblr page but this issue is something that's a bit close to my heart and I feel people need to be aware of what is going on in Turkey right now / recently. I'd be grateful if people could share on social media sights if possible - mainstream Turkish media are not showing what is really going on.
...missed that post a week ago somehow.
Jesus Christ, that really are some disturbing images.
I'm sick to my stomach now.Disgusting behaviour.

That picture of Gezi Park is beautiful though, as is the fact that there's peaceful protest possible now, apparently!

Boeing performing a ultimate-load wing-up bending test on their 787 Dreamliner program. During the test, the wings on the 787 were flexed upward “approximately 25 feet (7,6 m)” which equates to 150 percent of the most extreme forces the airplane is ever expected to encounter during normal operation.
The test is used to demonstrate a safety margin for the design and is part of the certification process to show the airplane can withstand extreme forces.

Jeebus, so that means the wings could flex by 17ft during 'normal operation'.

Better than having them break in a spot of clear air turbulence eh?

Yes, but over a half-span of nearly 100', you only spot it if you're watching carefully on take off. From no lift load to lift off at MTOW, the tip should rise about 6', the rest of the the flex margin you'll never see because you'll have your eyes closed during any rough flight that uses up the other ⅔
