Definately adds dimension to images.
That gif offset also works well.
Thought this was a tree trunk at first glance. Beautiful photo.

Re Surfer and bmxer, are they really shot with t&s lenses? Looks shopped to me.

I'd like to know how you can tell.
Pixels etc...

From what I gather, using an actual lens will take have an altered plane of focus, i.e. not parallel to the sensor, whereas in post, there will be just a band in focus across the middle of the picture.
I'm sure it's more complicated than this, but it's what my daddy told me...

Pretty much this.
The surfer image displays it a lot more than the bmx one. There's a band across the middle which is, as near as damn it, uniformly sharp despite being different distances from the camera and blurred parts are also uniformly blurred.
I could be wrong though, maybe this is how a t&s lens renders the image. I haven't used one enough to know. On the occasions I have used one though, I have noticed that the blur seems less severe and the transition more gradual but again, could be my inexperience.
Brickman, MrSmyth or possibly Metrolandman? might know better as I think they make regular use of this type of equipment.

I believe the bmx one is large format, not sure if that is the same as tilt shift (I know very little about photography methods)

Large format alone wouldn't have the miniaturisation effect. Using a large format camera with the lens board tilted would, and I believe works exactly the same as using a t&s lens on a 35mm or MF camera.

I see a snakes head, and was wondering if this is evolution in effect, a butterfly disguising itself as a predator? Or maybe it's just me...

the circles on the wings are meant to look like eyes, then any would-be predators will think their being watched.

I just saw a big fuck-off moth.
But then as a human being I am able to comprehend and recognise such camouflage/decoy tactics and so am not susceptible to being taken in by them.
fantastic photo, fantastic quote.
