Those ship-breaking yards in Bangladesh and India (et al) are amazing and terrifying. Al Jazeera had a great documentary on them a couple of years ago, but I can't find a copy to link to.

Interestingly their colour depends on their diet, the pink or reddish color comes from carotenoid proteins that are in their food in the wild. The concentration of this varies by species, and affects the saturation of color. Captive flamingo sare often given an additive called canthaxanthin to boost their colour.
