  • People see the lack of tube and run scared before they realise it's actually quicker to central London

    South London's best kept secret

  • I spent a while working in Forest Gate and our dress code for walking too and from the station was hoodie.

One night I witnessed a mass brawl of about 40 people.

Drug users and prostitutes would regularly be doing their business in our carpark.

We never decorated over the bullet holes in the wall which were the result of a raid over the road.

This was all several years ago mind, has it improved?

  • My brother knows a man that might be able to help.

  • I kind of consider Leyton and Leytonstone as the same place. I moved to the latter as it felt more similar to where I was living at the time I moved (Bethnal Green). Walthamstow had too many buggies being pushed around. Not necessarily a bad thing, but not for me.

The Central Line helps get me most places around London pretty quickly. Cycle to Victoria Park is about ten minutes.

Anyone who's near Leytonstone tube at the weekend should drop into the Filly Brook pop-up bar/cafe which is built into the tube station. Beers by Kernel, Brew By Numbers, Siren, Pressure Drop, etc. and a great little environment.

  • This quote function is, and I quote the great man Danny Dyer here, "Doing my fucking nut in".

  • Rob, you've sold it to me. Any tips on nice streets? See ya in 9 months.

  • I've long since abandoned the idea that Quote button will work.

I just select the text in someone's post I want quoted, then click on the Reply link. Obviously doesn't help when you want to quote multiple posts, but then typing > and then copypasta the text is quite easy.

  • then typing > and then copypasta the text is quite easy.

Not on a phone it's not. But if a faff.

  • your a fucking quote button!

  • I'm sort of between Leyton and Leytonstone but it's in Newham and also is E15 and so doesn't always come up in Leyton and L'stone specific postcode searches. Worth a look if you want Victorian terrace house with garden without hipster tax. Very convenient location for central line and Olympic park. But, some might prefer Waltham Forest as a borough, if so, stick to north of Crownfield Rd.

  • Well...I just went out wearing a suit and didn't get knifed. But I did walk past a drug deal on 3 minute walk to the station, so swings and roundabouts.

It has an Antic pub and a hipster coffee shop, and a sourdough pizza place is imminent, so Claptonification is in full swing. To the extent that Clapton FC play here and are on their way to becoming the UK's St Pauli.

Also, in the coffee shop in half term you can't move for teachers catching up on their marking. That's a sign of something.

  • Anyone looking for removal services could do worse than contacting these guys.

Ignore the headline, and the fact that it's The Standard

  • Good on them, both the Tory shitrag for supporting them and the lads for trying to turn themselves around.

    Camila Batmanghelidjh is pretty fearsome.

  • Aye, they're doing a cracking job all round by all accounts. They do all sorts of deliveries and since KC helped them get off the ground, they do a lot of their Christmas present donation delivery and ferrying around. We will be using them.

  • Great thanks; will use them. Originally was going to go with green man and van.

  • I was in the filly brook on sunday - quality little place. at closing time the guy said help yourself to the left over cakes etc as they wont be fresh enough to sell the next day.

  • Mrs_com and I went to see the flat again today (well it was her first viewing but I didn't tell the estate agent that - luckily she likes it) and we were there at the same time as the mortgage valuer. He was in and out in less than 5 minutes which I'm taking as a good sign. Also got to measure the garden properly. 8m x 4m so have got buy in from her that I can get an 8'x6' shed.

  • I learnt this week that you can build a permanent building up to 2m high and 50% of your garden space without planning permission.

    Just so you know....

  • The 'shed' may end up being slightly more 'robust' than just a few planks of wood........

  • My folks have a 6 car garage (size wise, they don't have six cars) in full block construction with power. That is listed as a "shed".

  • thumbs up!

  • I hope it's nicer than it was in 2004 when I lived there... I got properly mugged once, and was also verbally 'gay-bashed'. I'm not gay, just handsome.
