  • I ain't washing up.

  • I need a very low/short dishwasher in order to fit underneath a low counter top.

At the moment the only option I can find is Fisher Paykel - a drawer style dishwasher, and they are not what I'd call cheap.

Does anyone know of another option?>

Bosch tabletop models might fit. But non standard sizing is always more expensive.
That Fisher Paykel made me giggle.

  • ^ I think a counter top model on a low shelf might be the best option if you can get that plumbed in.

I've had the pleasure of looking at a few dishwasher models lately, and I've seen narrow ones but not short ones.

  • Can any recommend a general builder for some outdoor work in New Cross? Before we bought our flat the previous owners had a burst pipe in the front garden. The ground was broken out to repair the pipe but nothing was put back or made good. In fact it was made worse! The mains water has been trunked with interior grade pipe. The electricity mains have been bent out of the way and not put back. The roof and neighbrours' roof discharge into a puddle under the window. The rataining wall was broken away and not rebuilt and now the unretained earth is sliding towards the house. Pretty shit all in all!

tldr need someone to sort out front garden in New Cross

  • I think I do, I think we both do. But I'm not sure how long I'll be staying in the current job.

Or broker has offered us just life assurance for £18.50/month, rather than life and critical illness for £40 odd, which sounds more reasonable.

  • My Mrs gets £300k if I die in service, enough to pay the mortgage off and buy a a nice hat.

  • Mine gets 20x salary.

I don't eat anything she cooks unless I have seen her eat a mouthful first.

  • 20x salary? Mine might be able to buy a hat.

  • First big homeowner woe; my guttering downpipes are perished. As for the house, we need some new pipes to stop water soaking the walls when it rains. Found a great local guy who comes recommended and knows the properties, but the upstairs flat wants alternative quotes. Not sure there's a polite way to say "life's too short, love".

  • "Life's too short."

  • Operation swag wetroom started today. Builder has been in today to rip out old bathroom. I'm hoping he has at least left me a shitter.
Am not looking forward to the whole process.... I'm sure it is going to take a lot longer than I am imagining it will.

  • He will at least have left the soil stack, just hang your arse out the window.

By all accounts we are just waiting for a signature to be couriered from Israel and we will the ready to exchange. Said signature was sent on Friday.

  • Fingers crossed for you. Sounds like a right shitter so far.

  • I am beyond being sad and/or angry about the whole thing and just want it over with now.

  • Asking the local guy if he can help solve the situation.

  • On the phone to the estate agent this morning about exchanging in a week to complete in a fortnight. She called back this afternoon to tell us the vendors have pulled out.

Worst thing is it's because they were moving to the US but there's been a death in the family so I can't complain. Just angry that such a shit system exists and I'm out the best part of a grand.

Worst of all we negotiated an early release from our tenancy this morning too.

  • Fuck. Sorry.

  • We didn't. We both get death in service payouts with our pensions, have family that could help short term with mortgage payments if necessary, and both agreed if one of us shuffled off the other one would sell the house. Yes bit of a problem if it happens to be during a period of negative equity but meh. T'other half earns enough to cover payments and eat, would be a bit trickier for me.

  • Cover for death is only one part of what mortgage companies like (and sometimes require) you to have. A previous mortgage company (either Coventry BS or Halifax, can't remember) required us to have critical illness cover too. Not sure the current lot (Santander) do, but we're in the habit of paying it and it would certainly make things a lot easier if either of us ended up needing it.

  • question for the property gurus out there:

if you had 210/215k to spend on a 1 bed flat in london for rental purposes - where would you look to? walthamstow? leytonstone? stretch the budget slightly and maybe stretch to clapton?

its not a lot to spend on a property in London I know but the money will sit in the bank losing value if I dont do anything with it..

  • e&c?

  • Streatham.
    3 train stations.

  • Catford.
2 train stations AND a giant cat.

Something in the Culverley Green conservation area should go for about that.

  • Yup.
    Catford.

    Or OKR.

    Or Woolwich,

  • Or get a 4 bed like we are doing*

    *touch wood
