^^ near Enfield Lock (yes, miles out). Hopefully my solicitor can get them to take it off the market. They're not keen to, having apparently had someone fail to raise a mortgage once already.
This was via Laura Trott's shiny-suited friend.

Nice one, important first step out the way, there'll plenty of hassle still ahead but that's house buying for you.
Hope it goes smoothly.

Initial offered knocked back (though not very strongly), offer increased by £2k
Still waiting on El cunto to call me back about mine.
They called me this evening, while at the pub, which was ideal. It turns out that they lied. The vendor was supposed to have a place to go to all agreed, they were just waiting for a buyer. This evening's update was "they've put their offer of X on the next place [that's the end of the chain] based on your offer of Y, if that is accepted then we will accept your offer". Wankers. My IFA reckons that means we have the upper hand (for all that's worth), which is something.
I have re-iterated that we have no chain (we could probably absorb a month or so's rent - but i didn't tell them that) and the rest of our strong case.
Should hear more tomorrow.

Sounds fair enough to me. Why does it make them wankers? They have somewhere they want to buy, you offer less than they need so they try to buy the next one for less to make the deal work.

Does beg the question of why the asking price was less than the amount they needed to complete their intended purchase though. Agreed, it doesn't make them wankers, but if you've offered more than the asking price then I think the assumption would be that these issues wouldn't arise.

• #5682
so now you know.
-
• #5683
Wankers because they lied about the new place being completely sorted.
-
• #5684
They said it was completely sorted.
Still haven't heard back as to whether our increased offer (the one they are using to make their offer to a different branch of the same estate agents) has been accepted or rejected. Getting a bit itchy.

I think you're optimistic if you expect a call on a Sunday
-
• #5686
Fuckstons are open on Sunday.
-
• #5687
I was expecting a call on Saturday, like they said they would. Still optimistic, I agree.

• #5688
These agents are open 7 days a week too (not Fuxtons).

Lies, all lies

Called the estate agent to get an update. They're still waiting to hear if our vendors offer has been accepted. Said he would call the branch to find out, said he would call back within the hour, two hours ago.
None of this is surprising but that doesn't stop it being fucking annoying.

He's calling the other people who viewed it and is telling them that an offer has been made.
I can hear him now: "Yes, an offer has been made and the vendor is considering it. Obviously I can't tell you what it is but it is a good offer..."

So the search begins. This is depressing/exciting

I've just accepted an offer on my house.

Smart man. Who's buying it, stevo_com?

I genuinely (and probably naively) believe they are using our offer to back their offer. Mainly because I don't think they are clever enough to add another layer of subterfuge to the situation and that I know how desperate the vendor is to move (mobility issues in a split level flat, not that they can't stand the place).

I'd put money on your agent calling other people who've viewed that property with him. The name of the game is to keep the offer quiet because the other reptiles in his office will be looking to get counter offers from the people who they've shown and he'll need something to back it all up if your offer heads south.
-
• #5698
Fair enough. The hour has become 3 now. If this keeps up I'll sack off the other viewing tonight and head to his office earlier to set fire to his shiny suit*.
*haven't met him, this is an assumption.

It's a safe bet.

I'm glad I can be sure about at least one thing at this stage.
