  • Probably been on the lash all weekend and woken up in the wrong bed :)

  • Just spoken to the building society who confirmed that our mortgage wasn't paid off as it should have been on 31st March, which obviously leaves me wondering where the best part of quarter of a million quid has gone.

    FFS.

  • Back of the sofa? Checked the pockets of whatever you were wearing on that day? Embezzled by the British Jordan Belfort?

  • Wow, I await with interest the outcome of this. I have full confidence in the British legal system, they are bound to get this sorted out. (fingers crossed)

  • For sure, people sometimes do have unreasonable expectations, I dont think in this case thats it.

  • And yet they released their charge?

Bank's lawyers seem to have some questions to answer here.

  • Things always do get lost in the move, but we never had it!

@Airhead I'm sure it's cock up, not conspiracy. We exchanged contracts and completed on the same day, about 5pm, so that would have been too late for the deadline. I suspect the solicitors just failed to send it on the 1st April.

Anyway, between this and the fact we never actually got to speak to our lead solicitor because she permanently had her phone set to voicemail (and stopped replying to our emails from about halfway through the transaction) I am officially unrecommending Uzma Malik at MW Solicitors/Taylor Rose TTKW as a forum recommended conveyancer.

    Um. What the actual fuck?

  • I suspect the solicitors just failed to send it on the 1st April.

Ah 1st of April, I see...

  • Oh well thats fuckin handy...

  • Great stuff they stopped responding, sound like a useless bunch as per usual.

  • Eek!

How did you transfer the money?

  • If anyone wants a solicitor recommendation that doesn't involve a disappearing £500K Claire Fountain and her team at TWM were bloody great.

  • Well her underlings were responsive and apparently competent, so I would have been prepared to forgive that. But to be honest we were chasing them throughout and they were very far from proactive.

  • I didn't, the solicitors were meant to do it!!

  • Email from the paralegal just now:

Payment was made on completion to Nationwide and we have urgently written to them to make them aware of the same.

So... it could still be their fault?

  • I meant how did you make the payment to your solicitors.

    [Edit]

If you paid the solicitors (and this is confirmed) you would have thought (and hoped) that this makes them accountable and responsible for transferring the money to the bank correctly.

  • Could be some cock-up with reference numbers and whatnot.

The money is just resting in their account ;)

  • Yes I think you're right, they are very much accountable/responsible.

The money to pay off the mortgage was coming from the sale of our flat and we never saw it - £245k ish was meant to go to the Nationwide and the rest to the vendor of our new place.

The only payment we made to our solicitors was the deposit ahead of exchange which they confirmed receipt of.

Tbh Nationwide are pretty antiquated on a regular basis, so I wouldn't be that surprised if the issue was at their end.

Anyway, I'm glad we're so happy with our new house because I'd rather remove my teeth with my shiny new DeWalt 18v angle grinder than move again!

  • Biggest irony is I checked my credit rating this morning (looking for accounts I'd forgotten to change the address on). Apparently it's perfect (999) despite the fact I've currently got two mortgages, lol.

  • If that's the case, fair fucks to him. With a name like Bruce, it kind of fits the stereotype in my head.

  • I got mega loaded up with debt to do my house because couldn't sell flat (cladding bleugh). Credit rating went down to 550. This month, 981

    Still drowning in debt.

    [/shrug]

  • Debt is good, I never had any so my rating is mediocre.

  • Oh shit! Did your solicitors make the transfer?

  • Walthamstow geeks - have I totally missed the boat on getting a Warner flat for circa £350k? I can barely find one under £400k right now!
