  • Only with 'furnishings and fittings'.

  • That just means front and back doors.

  • Anyone got any recommendations for a decent firm or roofer who could look at a roof and give us an estimate for repairs in SE London? Specifically Crofton Park / Brockleyish?

In the process of hopefully buying somewhere down there and looks like the roof may need a bit of work.

  • I've been dealing with Darren at LondonRoofingSpecialist for the last week.

He seems a good egg and is reasonably priced, but is due to do the work on Monday so I'll get back to you with a review of his work.
He is repointing our chimney stack and fitting/flaunching chimney pots.

  • Cheers, will check him out. Chimney stack re-pointing / flashing was one of the things the survey pointed out so would be good to know how the work goes.

  • UPDATE - Do not use these guys.

They arrived 2 hours late, instantly said that their gaffer had quoted too low and it was going to take two days rather then one and cost me an extra £500.
They then proceeded to steal bricks out of my neighbours garden to do the work.

Having told me it was a two day job, they did a solid 4 hours work and fucked off.
They told my wife they would be back at 7:30 AM to finish the job.
They haven't turned up and I have had no contact from either the lads or their gaffer. No-one is answering phone calls or responding to voicemail.

    Avoid this shower of cunts.

  • Can anyone recommend a roofer who will do chimney brickwork in SE...?

  • How did you pay them?

  • I haven't

  • Just posted a job there, will report back.

  • also in the market for a decent, honest, non-cunt roofer.

been let down by four individuals on 4 occasions. in my experience they just don't bother to pitch if they get a better paying job elsewhere.

  • There is probably good money to be made in becoming the "LFGSS Recommended" builder.

  • Just posted my job on that site.

Let's see how this approach pans out

  • Definitely. As with any builder.

Cheers for that WJP. Definitely not them then. I'll keep watching for good recommendations.

  • Scaffolding has appeared on the outside of my flat, covering the whole front. Nobody's told me what's going on. Aren't they supposed to let you know?

  • Welcome to the world of home ownership.

Same thing happened to us and I don't recall being informed about it.

I'm of the opinion that so long as they don't damage anything and clean up, I'm not going to let it bother me.

Also, better to see them fixing stuff then letting it fall apart.

  • Yeah, you're absolutely right - it doesn't bother me, particularly as it's at the front and my flat is at the back (although I suspect that if it's a big project that they'll move to the back at some point). What I'm worried about is the bill. But the solicitor is supposed to ask if there's any big work coming up and whether the funds are already in place, aren't they?

  • Why would you get a bill? It might not be for shared work? It could just be some new windows for another place, no?

  • It covers the whole front of the building, so I'm guessing that it's shared work.

  • I can't recall the layout of your place but they need to scaff the ground floor to get to the 1st floor :)

Didn't you move into a new build?

  • It was built in 2008 or 2009 I believe, yeah. But the scaffolding is across the whole front of the block, which is two flats wide. It's a four-storey building, ground floor is parking, three floors of four flats per floor. One in each corner, entrance and stairwell in the middle. So scaffolding across the front seems like roof work to me. Especially as it goes right to top of building. Which would mean that they're coming around to the back eventually.
