  • Anywhere nice to live in Essex, with easy access to National Rail into Liverpool Street?

I bought in Brentwood a couple of years ago. Very nice place to live so far. Shenfield is also nice. Both have direct trains trains to Liverpool st. 17 mins from Shenfield and 35 from Brentwood.

  • My gaff's in Brentwood. That hill's a fucking workout though...

  • Hill, Essex, Does Not Compute

  • There are plenty of hills out there.

  • I promise this will be the last i say about the solicitor I used (Gisby Harrison), but almost 3 months after we completed and settled up I get a letter saying that the Land Registry have amended their pricing structure and I had over paid by £30. Cheque enclosed for £30.

What a thoroughly nice, honest and decent chap.

  • The world's in a right state if you can't find an honest solicitor.

  • So, I moved in at the weekend. Had man-flu all last week (still haven't shaken it), worked until midnight on Thursday, moved on Friday, spent Saturday and Sunday trying to sort stuff and build furniture and now I'm at the airport for a work trip. Shattered. And really would just like to be at home with the girlfriend feathering the nest, but she's back at her place now anyway.

    So, tired but chuffed.

average london house pruice rises by 50,000 in a MONTH !

    fffffffffffffffffffffffffuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu

  • all the buyers that have held off over the last 5 years are racing in to buy ...... interest rates to rise in the coming months

    bubble ... what bubble

  • ^^^ congrats!!

The first week or two were stressful for us too but it's a great feeling. Pop over to HG for a drink soon...

  • Congrats again Sparky.

Nothing like relaxing in your own house.

We're still in the process of renovating the house, all upstairs should be done by Christmas (hopefully!)

£83bn of foriegn money invested in UK property last year- those new builds in Stratford advertised off plan in Malaysia, China, India, many bought and left empty (or rented to low-paid workers who get HB!)

  • There's loads of UK property advertised here.

  • Cheers guys. I'll take you up on that, Soul. The place still feels a bit "other" but it'll slowly start to feel like home I'm sure.

Anyone want to buy a flat?

  • I have a contact in Qantas if you need help with arranging the flights.

  • Source?

Also beware... dependent on the context the statement "£83bn of foriegn money invested in UK property last year" could mean -

"£83bn of foreign money invested in UK residential property last year"
    or
"£83bn of foreign money invested in UK commercial property last year"
    or
"£83bn of foreign money invested in UK commercial and residential property last year"

You're right, that figure's out of whack:

    http://uk.finance.yahoo.com/news/no-stairs-and-square-rooms-only--the-madness-of-the-foreign-buyers-spending-billions-on-london-homes-165014502.html

More than half of London’s £1 million property is now being bought by foreign buyers. In fact, overseas money now gobbles up nearly two-fifths of resales and almost three-quarters of new-build property on the market in prime locations.

This astonishing appetite for London addresses has seen a staggering £37 billion injected into London’s prime housing market in just seven years, figures from upmarket estate agency Savills show.

Still enough to distort the market, I imagine. Hong Kong and Singapore have raised property taxes, as Mayor Bloomberg in his $20m London gaff pays £2100 tax a year- not much more than an east London 2 bed house.

  • If you're going to re-invest the money on a new home back home then I'll start a whip-round.

I was thinking more of 'investing' it in beer.

    Emirates A380 or GTFO >>>

  • Is that because it's the only aircraft that'll take your weight?

They're business partners now, so anything's possible.

  • You've changed.

  • still can't quite work out if that is hippy or not

    could be

    good oof though

  • Similar poor dress sense and posture but it's not me. Sorry to disappoint.

  • Can anyone recommend a decent moving house company.
