    Are you saying you don't have more than £10k in assets to your name?
    Its just half a years pay on even an average salary.
    You probably have bikes alone worth 10% of that

    Just because I choose to keep my assets liquid does not make me 'wealthy'

    I might agree it makes me 'rich' in being free

  • Tommy, this thread has been really useful in guiding folk - including me - through the frustrating process of buying a home, making it just a little easier. It's also been a place to debate what'll happen to house prices in the future.

    I'm not sure what you're trying to say, though, in all honesty.

    But the government are always going to push and brainwash the masses into buying property because it makes for law abiding citizens. Leave you guys too it.. enjoy your thread.

    I agree with Sparky. So much help from you folk when it came to buying a house, mortgages, if anything you guys helped me more than most advisers I spoke with.

    That reminds me, when I go back to my rented accommodation tonight I've got to finish building the meth lab in the attic and finalize those plans to burgle the nice retired couple two door up...

  • Besides any criminal with half a brain would place the title of their house in another name, for example the tax-evaders of Belgravia, Kensington, Chelsea etc.

  • If there was still council housing available i'd be happy renting, but since there's not i'd rather own a house just so i don't have to be answerable to the whims of private landlords.

    Renting + investment vs home ownership is not a valid comparison in this context as the desired outcomes are different.

    Through out my 20's, when I was moving about, travelling, spending most of my money on socialising and generally keeping myself free from obligations I was v. happy to rent. If I had the money I wouldn't have bought. My life is different now so I saved up and bought.

    I'm happy with my decisions and feel no need to justify them with selective argument that purposely miss the point to feel superior.

    Reading some of your posts on this site you come across as have an inflated sense of your own expertise, expertise that is often shown to be poor.

    Well if you have the money to rent and make substantial investments on top then you are relatively wealthy. Most people have enough cash either to rent and make small investments or take on a mortgage and make even smaller or non-existent investments. This doesn't mean that purchasing a house is primarily an investment, but if it absorbs all your available cash and leaves you with basically nothing to invest in shares etc., then it's obvious that you will prefer some return on your money to none at all.

    Still London and Country from me, I've recommended them to lots of people and everyone has said how good they are. Never charge a fee, whole of market too, which is very important.

    Has it been done before? I cant find it if it has.

    I am curious about the income levels of posters on LFGSS. I hear a lot of people constantly saying "I'm broke" and then being astounded at some later point further on in time when I discover how much money they earn.

  • Poll would have relevant brackets / stages, such as minimum wage, av industrial wage, income tax brackets and so on.

  • do it. household income too. and % of income invested in chris king headsets/njs.

  • Add type of employment (contractor/permanent).

  • Higher income typically equates to higher spending. So a bigger mortgage or whatever. Maybe felt the need to breed so have to pay for kids.

    Maybe a thread: "What's the largest denomination note you'd be happy burning in front of a bunch of protesters?"

  • Depends what they were protesting about and whose note it was.
