OK, I'll bite... what's "surrey" ?

Took me a while to realise that was a terrace. At first glance, it looked like solid value for the whole thing.
As a terrace, it can >>>>>>
Why trade all the convenience of living somewhere connected but crowded, to live somewhere removed from connections and still end up sharing walls with people. Makes no sense.

I accept all of these points as being genuine.
I still think it looks fun, but I'd be the first to agree it'd need to be less £.
Primary reasons I want to move?
I'd love some outdoor space, I'd love a workshop of my own, and I never want to spend an hour driving 10 miles through London to get home ever again.

really really really don't spend that kind of money only to still share walls with people who could potentially turn out to be the absolute worst cunts.
I shared the same reasons as you (excepts driving through London) for wanting to move away from Glasgow after living in tenement flats my entire life.
Theres got to be plenty other houses in that price bracket that offer all that you seek?

Where are you based?

redhill is one of the cheapest parts of surrey (which I always find odd as it has a quick connection into london on the train). Althought the setting is nice, does seem quite overpriced for what is essentially a terrace
-
• #36683
I'm going to jump on the terrace bandwagon and say idk why someone would want what looks like an odd set of compromises.
But if you've got a free afternoon and there are no viewings, why not check it out?

Think I may have just scuppered our house sale and our chance of a straightforward move.
Vendors put in an offer £20k below our "in excess of" price yesterday. It's our first offer after 2+ weeks.
Extension roof sprung a leak over the weekend in the torrential rain. It's been fine since start of the year.
Called roofer round for quote. It's an easy enough fix as he thinks the drop isn't big enough from the coping to the roof level. I'm guessing it will cost around £3k.
Today in our counter-offer I was upfront with vendors who hadn't spotted it and said either we can fix it prior to completion or you can and we'll take some extra off. (They may have plans for the house we don't know about)
They want pix and quote (understandably) and are now asking lots of awkward questions.
Don't want to drop sale price any lower.
Suspect it may be best to get roof fixed ourselves and start again but getting bit late in the stamp duty holiday window.
Also the sale is being handled by the EA's most junior seller so I'm not confident they can talk the vendors round.
And sadly we'd just started to believe we could get a decent place in the area we want after all... -

2 weeks doesn't sound long and isn't the stamp duty window until March?
-
• #36686
Yeah i'm probably worrying too much

Oof, major works notices for anything up to £118k in what is not a rich area

The small roof on the 2 storey extension of the house came off and revealed totally rotten timbers for the rafters, plates and joists. There's been water coming in for years by the look of it.
Another 4 figure surprise.

We're in Twickenham - I expect your roofers wouldn't want to traipse out this far

They're from Hounslow.

“another 4 figure surprise” should be this thread’s subtitle

Similarly may be after them if we ever fucking complete.

Our building survey came back and was reassuringly thorough (barring any four figure surprises). Listed everything we had spotted and a couple more interesting bits but not enough for us to worry about trying to get more money off than we already have.

The total for all their recommendations is 2/3rds what we have as a cash budget, wish is nice.
In before "those estimates are never accurate", they're more educated than me and we were actually planning on having to spend 3.5 - 4 times as much over the next 5 years.

this is important for me, I have so many such basic cultural questions. None of this is covered in 'Life in the UK'.

None of this is covered in 'Life in the UK'.
It is but they cover the regional variants;
In Newcastle it's just Live, Laugh
In Liverpool it's just Love, Laugh
In Nottingham it's Live, Laugh, me duckIf you have not taken this test, you wouldn't understand.

Looks like we're joining the club with the need for a roofer. Girlfriend has a top floor flat with a roof terrace which is built on the flat rood of the flat below.
After the weekends heavy rain they had some water and damp issues.
Any one with recommendations around S London (here's looking at you @Señor_Bear), SW2 more specifically would be really appreciated. Her flat is under offer at the moment so need a quote ASAP. We might need to fix ourselves as rather not spook the purchasers off
I may hit you up for your roofers - That seems like a good price. I'm assuming it includes the slates themselves?
