    Maybe it's changed. But does it matter? I'm guessing your of an age when your not going on nights out, so do you really care what the odds* of getting in a fight are?

    Otherwise there are loads of practical/lifestyle benefits.

    Non-standard, bespoke construction isn't cheap and with something like that where small mistakes will be amplified and stand out like a sore thumb the manufacturer will have to factor the potential for fuck ups and re-dos into the price.

    If the glass in the frames was curved as well the price would have been truly eye watering.

    I don't know anything about the house, but take 50k out of a 200k build and you're not even going to touch the sides on the rest of the refurb. Were the original windows metal framed?

  • Has anyone here got any experience buying a house which looks empty? Still looking at first house near where I work with the plan to let one room out to a colleague. Slightly on hold due to a potential move to Bristol and a 5x mortgages being scarce even with a 15-20% deposit.
    There is an area of 6 streets which would all be great in the perfect location. The area has its own website/community group and there is only 1 house for sale currently which is slightly too big and too expensive (https://www.primelocation.com/for-sale/details/54973957?search_identifier=9adfcebf10d98e31ba4e60456d7efdea). Had a quick stroll round midweek and there are 3 houses that look to be empty (judging from outside appearance walking past), plus 2 which are for rent.

  • There is no harm with dropping flyer's through letter boxes saying you are interested in buying in the area. House I used to live in in Brighton used to recieve these fairly often as was in a desirable area and some neighbours sold that way as you get to cut out the estate agent fees.

    I'm currently trying to buy in Heatherton village but sellers and agents seem to of lost their mind and want more than before the the lockdown and not noticed the city is about to be one of the hardest hit in coming recession

  • Ha, my mate lives on that road, the community action group was a big selling point for his wife. My other mate just exchanged on a place on wheeldon av just before the lockdown as well. I definitely think it's worth posting something through the letter box to see what's going on as places round there don't often come on to the market and when they do tend to sell quickly (for Derby).

  • @greentricky you're spot on. I haven't seen the price fall on anything I've been looking at other than one or two being withdrawn for sale. House prices have to fall here surely

  • Bit late to the Kingston chat @howard, but I'm here too. Works for me. I'd echo what everyone else has said, although some of the scare stories about the town centre after dark are a bit misplaced nowadays I think (was certainly true 15 years ago though!)
    Schools and green spaces/river are big pluses. The one downside is getting back from London centre late night - last train is relatively early, so its either train to Surbiton or tube to Richmond and bus/uber/hike from there, or cabbing it home, which is hexpensive. But, like you, kid-life means that's a rare occurrence anyway!

    Honestly I think this is a much better direction than some of the other locations you've been posting. How many airports are there near there? You could probably drive to the alps too.

  • It's a big shift, and I'd need to learn French - so this place won't happen, but is a good indication of what's available. Bazas is next to a big national park, two hour drive to the coast, three or so hour drive to the mountains. I've not looked at airports - C19 has shown that we don't strictly speaking need those.
