  • Which one did you go for ?

I’m looking at them, Novy and Elica.

Then I have to start thinking about ovens...

  • Tbh this is how I feel

  • Doesn’t cry when it cuts onions, the onions do.

  • All my bikes are old and steel. This is out of character.

  • The Pure one. It’s the ‘basic’ one. Friend convinced me that it was the way forward, but also gave me a big discount on it. The removable filter that you can put in the dishwasher is neat.

  • Have you used it yet? I've heard they are expensive and not that effective.

However if they were good it might help us out with our kitchen design.

  • I feel like the heat from the gas flame would push the steam you want to extract away from the extractor inlet. Not sure if this happens in reality though or is even a worry....

  • Is induction really a pita? Damn. I love cooking with gas but I don't love having gas in the house.

  • I hated induction for the brief time we had it. However that was mainly down the fucking annoying delay on the touch sensitive buttons for changing the temperature.

I believe that there are now induction hobs with actually knobs you can use to change the heat, like every normal person would want.

  • This is similar to my experience with it, especially with damp/wet hands not registering on the buttons.

  • The flat touch button thing was supposed to make them easier to clean but yeah fuck that most people would trade easy to clean for can actually be fucking used.

See also the fifteen minutes of faff when you rent a cottage or something and can't work out how to turn the hob on.

  • I went from gas knobs to induction touch buttons, can't say I've struggled to adapt. Just a mid range Zanussi hob too. Just wipe the hob down if it gets damp.

  • You are quite young. Later, a switch flicks and anything new and shiny but actually a bit shit - the sort of thing you need to 'adapt to', really irritates you. See also cars with start buttons that you can't find.

  • Stop trying to shame me

  • Fossil fuel too. Tut tut.

(I know how much electricity comes from natural gas so no need to call me out on that)

  • Went induction (from gas) at the recommendation of several pro chefs. It's SO much better. Was important for me to have a scale for each burner to press on once to change heat, rather than touch to select hob then touch to select heat. The IKEA one we have has been really great. Bonus feature is setting timer on each burner so it goes off after X mins.

I cook a lot, including using a thin steel flat bottom wok. I have both carbon and steel bikes.

This is ours, though this new one looks pretty baller.

  • a scale to press on once to chance heat

    This is good.

timer on each burner so it goes off after X mins.

    This is great

  • I have had induction for 20 years and never knew this was an issue until reading all the moaning on this forum.
You can get models with magnetic dials.

  • I have never used another induction many time before this to compare. But compared to gas seems much more efficient so far.
Not having a overhead extractor was also a factor as it’s fitted on the island

  • I had an induction hob in a flat 12 years or so ago and it was deeply frustrating. Touch controls were never that responsive and if they got wet they'd just act as if they were randomly being pressed. I assume they've probably improved since then though.

  • Durability of the cooking surface is my main concern for induction hobs. You can clatter pans about on a gas hob, and not worry about it too much.

  • Fucking cooking.
    Uber eats and deliveroo.

  • Induction is amazing IMO. Having gone from shit electric to induction and then to gas I would go back to induction in a heartbeat. The fine control you have over temperature is amazing and has been totally rubbed in by the lowest gas burner on current hob still not going low enough to not overboil a pan of rice for 2/3, similar issue with the two medium burners.

Speed, cleanliness and efficiency are also brilliant, but the real selling point for me was the power. Also never really had an issue with touch controls

  • There's this option but I'm pretty sure it's gonna be pricey. Plus then where's the essential tepenyaki tray gonna go. Also no custom wok hob on this version, which is obviously essential.
