  • Very exciting - got our mortgage approved and our are buyers moving things along so it's apparently quite straighforward currently.
We're going for a Level 3 building survey but the seller is very house proud and looks to have kept the place in tip top (if not to our taste) condition. We can move straight in with tons of parking and a double length garage with a load of windows tucked away to do some bike / car pottering . Welding practice etc...!
We're planning on just enjoying living in it and getting to know it , how we use things for a couple of years before probably doing some works on it (great daydream plans at the moment) .
Fingers crossed it continues along smoothly :)

  • Bit higher than the local ones. They suggested putting it on toward the higher end of the valuation and they reckoned they'd be able to tell quite quickly from the number of hits they were getting whether it was reasonable or not.

That said, I've had ~25 viewings in a fortnight so seems like it was a sensible price. Just need people to nudge offers up a little

  • Finally exchanged today, 6 months after having the offer accepted. Chain woes for dayz.

    Completing next week!

    West Norwood 4 lyf

  • My council and energy company keeping holding their hands up and saying 'not my problem' whenever I try.

Electricity cutoff to the meter is in a locked cupboard that only the council has a key for, I cannot collect it, only the energy company. Energy company says they don't do that and have never heard of that sort of arrangement. Council says energy company is aware of its processes and it happens all the time.

Been going on for a year now

  • just used your referral...

  • Do they do smart meters now? They didn’t...

  • Do they do smart meters now? They didn’t...

Bulb have been holding off until SMETS2 were available. They are now available.

I've asked for one but as I'm a Northern Monkey I'm not getting one for a while as they are rolling out for the Southern Poofters first.

  • Yes! Thanks :)

  • Ooh ok, I might swap back at some point. Currently with Pure Planet who were slightly cheaper for us but I miss the referrals.

  • Should I get a smart meter? They are nagging me

  • Depends, do you think 5g is the devils work?

  • Possibly who knows

  • Kills people apparently. All because the frequency is slightly different to 4G according to the people in aluminium foil hats.

  • The IoT is a nefarious plot by the deep state to control people, didn’t you know?

  • Just trying to figure out if it's Bezos, Pichai or Cook at the moment.

  • Exchanged on Tuesday but completion isn't until mid October (seller's new build is delayed).
I tried to do the buildings insurance as you need to from exchange. Turns out your average insurance contract won't cover for that length of time before moving in so we had to go with a specialist. £120 for 6 weeks cover :(
Still, worth it if the seller decides to burn the place down before we move in.

  • Went for a second viewing yesterday and was just about to put an offer in but decided to check current planning applications on the street first.

Turns out the neighbours are planning a substantial kitchen extension (3m deep and 3m high) which I think may overshadow the garden and block light into the kitchen so now I'm a bit unsure what to do.

  • A year ago the washing machine leaked, water leaked into the flat below. I said I'd pay for repainting, (damage was not bad).

A year later, I get a text from the guy below, saying do I want a receipt for the £240 cost of painting. No asking for the money, no asking me if I want to get quotes. Just got the work done and asking if I want a receipt.

I had no issue paying for repair, but this guy is taking the piss.

  • £240 seems pretty cheap. Getting quotes for a job that small, arranging to be in when they come round, etc would have been a real ballache and I don't think I'd have bothered either. Particularly if I hadn't caused the damage.

  • It's not the price per se. More the not dropping me a line first to say hey were getting it done, over a year after the damage occoured, would you be happy to pay still?

Forget to invoice someone for a year or get work done and you'll be writing that off as lost. Unless your client is really nice or you want to go to court for it.

  • What's the problem? A lack of communication or the price?

  • I had no issue paying for repair, but this guy is taking the piss.

Could be worse, could be asking you for £500. He should have just claimed on insurance though.

  • I wasn't clear initally. I have no issue paying £240, take responsibility for the issue.

The repair has only just now been carried out a year after the incident. So, a year after the incident (that i'd forgotten all about), I get a text asking if I want a receipt for the £240 for the painting (that has just finally been done). That was the first contact. No prior contact to say that he's just now 1 year after the incident going to get the work done, it'll be £240 am I still okay to pay as it's been a year. No phone call, no polite reminder.

Plus, I've got a great handyman who I'd have sent round to do the work.

No way that flies anywhere else, you'd get told to shove it.

  • Hoover recommendations plz.

We currently have a Dyson handheld thing which is a pain to clean but very easy to use for small jobs (and just about for our old flat). However the battery doesn't last more than 10 mins so will be rubbish for doing a whole house.

Not buying a Dyson, he can fuck right off.

Currently looking at a Miele cat and dog (we have two cats). A bit spenny but should last for ever.

Anything else I should be looking at?
