  • Turn the heating off, no-one will go in there any more. Problem solved.

  • New kitchen + wet room (same space) or loft extension and same shitty kitchen and laundry room?

  • Loft extension.

New kitchen and wetroom will not add the amount you spend to the value of the property.

£60k on a loft should be worth more then that on additional house value before the paint is even dry.

    Shit in a bucket

  • or you could decide on which one would make your life better an not worry about the £

  • I already shit in a bucket : (

  • Probably the loft tbf - an office inaccessible by toddlers would be a dream.

  • an office inaccessible by toddlers would be a dream.

    HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

  • Loft with a bathroom?
Toddler proof office with ensuite that you can walk around naked in

  • At the moment my office at home is the laundry room which has a toilet in it so not far off. But it's also got the cat litter tray in it so I can't lock the door and be undisturbed. I guess the short term is a cat flap.

  • Which the toddler would absolutely crawl through :/

They're like mice with their flexible spines. The tiny spaces they get wedged/stuck into is astonishing.

  • Anyone had problems with slugs getting into their house? I find their silvery trails over the floor in the morning but I never catch them, which is ridiculous given how slow they are. I've also not really got any idea how they're getting in. Don't want to put slug pellets about as really keen not to poison my small infant.

Also, is there a general consensus on how to stop cats shitting in your garden?

  • I'm weighing up the same options and going for an extension, but I think you'd be better off with a loft due to having more people in your house.

I want to bring the outside inside and blur the lines between blah blah blah middle class conservatory.

  • They live under the floor boards I think.

    At least they aren’t moths

  • Think you can kill or shock slugs with coffee grounds, you’re supposed to lay it around your garden, the caffeine does for them. Or salt, does the same..

  • Neighbourhood cats have stopped shitting in our flower beds after lacing them with coffee (free grounds by the kilo from starbucks).

Now they shit on the patio instead.

  • Definitely cats? Foxes do that here. You can tell because the end has a little twist - I presume they have some kind of corkscrew anus.

  • Cats won't shit on hard ground - they like to modestly bury their turds.

Foxes are proud, and like to crap on top of things, cherry-on-cake style.

  • Had an offer on our flat - they’ve gone up to 96% of asking. Their budget is well over what our asking price is.

Hold on for a bit more or bite their hand off?

  • Round here, the foxes like to move things around, then the cats do a shit on it, cherry on top style. I'm pretty sure it's cat not fox. There is also a cat that craps on the corner of the doormat, I've put a few drops of lavender oil on it to see if that puts it off enough.

  • I've put a few drops of lavender oil on it

Don't be surprised if you come downstairs one morning to see an old lady curled up asleep there

  • We had really bad problems with slugs when we moved in, the dining room wall had some minor damp which helped them get in, we think.
The surveyor said a simple french drain would sort the damp, and lo and behold, a mere 8 months later when I finally bothered to dig it, the slug problem stopped overnight. Not seen one since.

I also chucked about fifteen quids worth of copper coins underneath the floorboards. No idea if that helped too.

  • Would the extra dorrah make a meaningful difference to your life long term? If not and you need the sale take the money.

  • @tonts get a hedgehog

  • It would be nice to be able to spend £20k+ and not worry about seeing it again...

  • Water is coming into our flat - the managing agent says that we have to instruct someone to find out where from, then give them a copy of the report. Who would I ask to do this investigation?

On a parallel track- are there builders who specialise in windows? I’d like to get someone to check the frames are all waterproof and refresh the sealant if not. I’d do this myself but don’t own a long enough ladder.
