Yeah. Go scope them out. Say hello. If they are crystal meth heads or have three rowdy jumpy toddlers then maybe have a think about things.
Worth just loitering around at different times of day to check out whether there’s some dick nearby who is partial to loud techno each and every evening until 11pm. These cunts do exist and you don’t want to exist near them.

I have to say this would be a big red flag for me

We aren't allowed any more than 30 mins access to the property,
Red flag 2

Anyone had any experience with rentcharge when buying their (freehold) home?
-
• #25756
Yep, not sure why I haven’t done that already.
Yeah it’s really important to us too, quite a worry
-
• #25757
One neighbour owns a Rover and from previous snooting I get the impression they are retired, and retired people don’t make noise. But I’ll go and knock to make sure.
The other concern is that we have a dog, and I’d hate to move in and piss my new neighbours off when he barks
-
• #25758
Yeah this isn’t normal is it?
-
• #25759
retired people don’t make noise.
Hmm. What about the slightly deaf sweary/shouty ones that like to listen to tv and music up loud?
-
• #25760
Or my dad who thinks starting his motorbike, which is nearly as old as he is, and revving it for 5 mins to warm it up at 7 am on a Sunday morning is acceptable behaviour?
-
• #25761
Hah, yeah, like the guy who lives next door to our cousins. Retired, but owns a hot-rod, that he likes to tune on the drive way on a Sunday afternoon.
-
• #25762
Anyone had any experience with rentcharge
No, what are they?
-
• #25763
our neighbours own a piano and he / she has been 'learning' to play Moonlight Sonata. it's been three months now and they can't get past the first nine or so bars.
c sonata b.

This seems normal to me - if the estate agent has to be there, they'll only allow 30 min slots so they can keep to a schedule.
-
• #25765
Sounds like the dickhead that decides to mow the lawn at 5am on Australia (Invasion) Day... It's a thing... Unfortunately...
-
• #25766
Our neighbours have a piano, they're pretty good... Not sure who's playing...
I've got loads of guitars, big amps and fuzzboxes... I feel sorry for them... Not the guy right behind us tho', his wife and kids are lovely but he can get fucked... He hates swearing, I swear a lot anyway but I mostly like to use profanities when I'm right by our back fence and he's on the other side... Priceless...
-
• #25767
treat people that disprove of swearing in the same way you would treat people who tuck their jumpers into their trousers. fucking weirdos that probably need to be on a register.
-
• #25768
That's true I get that. The estate agent asked the vendor if we could have free roam of the property for 1 hour, but he refused. That's a bit concerning.
-
• #25769
Our next door neighbour of 10.5 years plays the piano, pretty much daily. I swear he hasn’t improved in that time - I’m considering getting Malcolm Gladwell around so he can reconsider his 10,000 hours theory.
-
• #25770
Gladwell in over simplification shocker!
-
• #25771
They're fucking with you. It's a recording, they don't have a piano.
-
• #25772
I'm not sure if I would be concerned, thats quite an odd request IMO.

buys bigger moto, warms it up at 6am Sunday
realises we are not neighbours, sells moto
-
• #25775
sells moto
but keeps boots, leathers and helmet...
Can you talk to the surveyor to understand what noise was heard? I have to say this would be a big red flag for me as someone who is not hugely tolerant of noise.
