  • I don't think you can put rubble In a hippo bag.

The small bags you can, as long as you don't fill above the brim (officially).

Unofficially, the guys collecting the bags aren't too fussed, as long as you don't take the piss.

  • They look good but there's a bike lock up directly in front of my house where a parking space would be so the bag option's not going to work.

  • How did this go?

  • Fitter was excellent, took him 6hrs all in but he left the place spotless. Door is solid as a solid thing, it's probably the nicest thing I own

The difference between the old uPVC and the new composite one was well worth the money

  • Another week another delay in completion. Lender "forgot to send" some kind of form to the buyer. Please please please let it complete next week. If I type this on the internet, the world must make it happen.

  • I've just had an offer accepted, now comes the fun by the sounds of it

No chain either side so hopefully not too painful

Fingers crossed my landlord is happy to re let my flat mid-tenancy...

  • I’m thinking about moving some time in the next 12-18 months. Has anyone got any experience of de-chaining themselves?

What I am considering doing is putting my place on the market and moving into rented accommodation once that completes. This will allow me to be more opportunistic when I see the place I want. The other benefit is I can try out living in a new area of London to see if I like it before buying.

Obviously Brexit complicates things, but I wonder if this might present long-term buying opportunities.

  • I know it's an incredibly open question, but how much would people budget for a redecoration of 3 bedrooms, new kitchen, new bathroom and possible rewire, to a decent but not massively flash finish (in Cardiff not London). Would 30-40k get me there?

  • So instead of building a shed we've decided to turn our car port into a garage... It means we can get some power in there, I can get a workshop happening, more room for storage, etc... Just need to find someone who'll do the conversion and skim the concrete slab so we can paint it... Then we'll get the stumps on the house done... Does it ever end?!?

Got a new fusebox and loads of new power points put in a couple of weeks back, very reasonably priced and we're now all ready for solar... Probably a couple of years off but good to know we're good to go when the time comes...

    Then the new veranda!!!

  • Yes, just.
Bathroom and kitchen can be done for 5-10k each, maybe even less, pretty sure I did my current for about 800 quid and 2.5k (I think...) Electrics around 5k and for bargain basement redecoration in The London I was quoted 20K.

  • bargain basement redecoration in The London I was quoted 20K.

    Really?!? Wow...

  • Whole house. 3 bed. Assumed that’s a low price as I knew the guys, maybe that included a new bathroom and kitchen actually?

  • If it didn't they would have been taken you for a ride.

  • Yeah thinking about it you’re right, must have included everything.

  • It's a stretch of a project for us. Next door but one is on for 260k but it's renovated, and has the loft converted, how much is that worth? This one for 200 which on that basis is way too much. Developers swarming over it so I doubt their offers will be that high. Possibly too much space for us right now too (no kids for at least a year or two)

Edit: guess there's not much harm in sharing: https://www.rightmove.co.uk/property-for-sale/property-67339453.html

And this is 2 doors up

Would 35k under asking be taking the piss?

  • Where’s a good bet for a nice 3 bed with decent transport to London Bridge for £600-650? Within London obvs

  • No Plumstead or Catford apparently. Or Woolwich.

  • Walthamstow? Forest gate? Leyton? All pretty quick to Liverpool Street then down?

  • Sydenham / penge.

    4 stops from lb.

  • Is Forest Gate actually a decent place to live? Never been there.
Walthamstow possibly, is that enough to get a nice house there? Thought it was a bit more spenny these days.
Got friends in Leyton and it’s on the list

  • On the list. Bit close to @Chalfie tho

  • Wanstead is the best place to live in London
