  • of course, Mrs CYOA doesn't know where her passport is and her drivers license has old address (!?) it's almost like we didn't think this thing through...

  • My updated driving license came in a couple of days from the DVLA website when I needed proof of address / ID.

  • that's good to know, will get onto it now cheers

  • Estate agent seems vaguely sane so i'm probably imagining more stress than there is.

    Probably.

    Got a survey done yet?

  • If anybody needs a mortgage broker who is razor sharp on documents and applications, PM me.

Our guy has sorted out about 15 remortgages over the last 20 years for people in my family and he's impossible to shake off if you're an errant lender or solicitor. Gets shit done. He does charge a £300 fee though.

  • her drivers license has old address

    https://www.gov.uk/change-address-driving-licence

Possible £1000 fine if she is caught driving and it has the wrong address on it (depending on circumstances)

  • i updated my DL recently to our new address. it was surprisingly painless.

  • In fairness she hasn't been behind a wheel for getting on two years but still.

  • Will also vouch for this chap. Sorted two mortgage applications for me. Very good at following up all parties.

  • took the day off to drive a landrover to sunbury antiques fair this morning (top that gentrifuckers) to buy a MCM dining room table. i've never owned a dining room table - no joy tho.

anyone got any pointers? something g-plan / scandi looking with, and i quote, "pointy legs and made of wood"

  • I'm not sure I knew that you used him in the end. Good to hear.

  • Depends on what the old address is, they just need one where you can be contacted. When I rented they advised that I kept my licence in my parents address to save having to update it as often.

  • Explained to our solicitor and she said chill out. She hasn't heard anything from vendors solicitor yet and could ignore estate agent so even if it's another 2 weeks we should still be fine. Might take enough drugs to knock me out for a fortnight and see where I am when I wake up.

  • They're probably still working out how much to charge you for lamp shades and the rusty chair in the garden they are so courteous to consider leaving behind.

  • Hah yea this

  • They've got dead nice original G Plan stuff all over the place. We've asked they leave as much as they want but they only offered to leave the washing machine, fridge and a cupboard. The devils.

Just had Father-in-law-doom-and-gloom-cyoa on the phone saying there's no way they'll wait another 2 weeks, and we need to urgently go out and get some more viewings, fuck off you miserable old fuck. That gets you last place on the visiting list.

  • Have they accepted your offer? If so of course they will wait, you’re presumably talking several £100k and something to be used for decades - a few weeks is nothing (although it feels like eternity). Plus they’ll have to wait even longer if they restart the process with someone else.

Edit: estate agent just probably has completion targets to hit. Our vendors agent told us to set a deadline for their clients so they’d get a move on!

  • This is what I'm hoping and is of course logical. Just getting estate agent pressure etc but I'm sure you're right.

We offered 500 under asking and they accepted an hour after we made it. According to the agent the nearest closest offer was about 10k away. So yes, it should all be fine etc. Just need to drink a boat load of whisky and make the next fortnight a blur.

  • something g-plan / scandi looking

lots of nice Ercol and G-Plan stuff on eBay. Problem is, if it's London / near that London, it's super expensive. If it's in the arse end of somwhere hard to get to, can be had for more reasonable money.

I'm looking for a similarly pointy legged made of wood table. Not found one at the right price, yet.

  • He did a good job, I thought.

Only gripe is that he does a hard sell on the rest of the bits - life insurance etc... We went with him in the end, as the deal he got was a good as elsewhere, but could have done without the pressure tactics.

  • Ha! Yes, I remember him being like that when we did life insurance. As you say, as good as anywhere but the big sell can be a bit much.

He just sorted out a mortgage for some friends with complex circumstances in a very satisfactory manner. I'm sure there are plenty of good ones out there, many for free...but for me its £300 well spent.

  • fuck off you miserable old fuck. That gets you last place on the visiting list.

    Did lol

    Congrats!

  • We got a call back few days ago, the other buyer's chain fell through so we have first dibs. Decided to match the offer and now we wait...

Offer has been accepted by the sellers

    Now need to arrange:

    • Mortgage - discussing with L&C, if they give a decent quote we'll probably run through with them + solicitors etc. Looking on MSE for rough comparable estimates.

    • Building survey - had a quote on some comparison site for ~£500

  • Charity shops outside London.

If you can get north then there's a load of good ones from Barnes up into Hertfordshire.

This one is OK, but there's another in the same road that is excellent (and also very good for large wardrobes).
