Also BTL is a specific choice someone has made, not all landlords bought-to-let.

Sounds nifty. Why don't they do that here?

What about bought it, lived in it, moved elsewhere for work, now need to rent it out?
Need tenant to cover new rent or new mortgage, you can't force the sale of the first place.

In your theoretical scenario where no one can sell a house for more than it cost to build, I think we have larger issues.

No-one likes being judged, not even Scum.
Yes - but we are judged every day in most of the situations we find ourselves in. We have to put up with that.
It's the needless insult I take issue with. It's not productive, changes nothing, and divides.

Most people just rent their gaff from the banks.

You've been to Switzerland, right?

They didn’t BTL then did they.
However, in my utopia they would be encouraged to sell the first place. Back in the real world lots of companies will pay relocation costs whilst they find a new place (and sell old). -

Investments are a risk, everyone can't always win. All I want to see is housing brought back in line with wages rises and unfortunately for that to happen there will be some losers. In the long term its way better for society.
For people who say it will never happen, look at Tokyo in the 80's. -

Can you do my debating for me? Your views align with mine and you do a better job of getting your point across than me.

How much more though? How much can a builder borrow to build without running into lending issues. Get tenants in, builder can afford to build two homes at once instead of the one. I don't know, I'm starting to glaze over now. Beer o'clock...

Yep, that sounds about right to me... it's crazy that people can not afford a shitty 2 bed flat in East London these days without six figures from mum and dad/anyone anywhere else.
Maybe our values are not so far apart?

Looking at my third.

I think you’ll have a better job financing two house builds with the proceeds of one sale rather than one rental income but yeah whatever I’m not a housing developer either. Beer o clock!

House? Monster!

< Scum, sub human scum....

Haha! Just live in a caravan forever.
-
• #20594
I imagine they might well be. Having recently tried to rent for a reasonable price in east London and seeing some of the horrendous places people are trying to let has left me a little bitter.
-

I hear ya, and I imagine I would be too, and yeah, renting in East London is ridiculous now.
Something does need to change...

Something does need to change...
Well, this Brexit thing might do something...

East London
This is where everyone starts playing the 'you will get shit loads more value for money in south London' card.

Oh, and dont mean to boil your blood @user78386 but a friend (Graphic Designer - so not involved directly) told me about a development in Dalston (she worked on the website) that was ONLY being pitched/sold to Foreign investors.
Thats not on IMO, and contributes to your predicament.

Never heard of it.
Not exactly encouraging anyone to build anything is it?
Landlord can't make money.. developer can't make money.
