  • I'd move out of this city if I could.

  • What's stopping you? I'd love a home in the country.

  • Travel card + Brompton?

  • There's a one bed place going in our block it seems, for 175K.

5 minutes walk to the train station, 14 minute train journey to London Bridge, 28 minutes to Dalston junction.

40 minutes on the bike to Farringdon.

Lots of places like that around the area, we paid 10K more and got two more bedrooms.

  • 2 bedrooms is the minimum for us

I'm not that into cycling to rely on a bike for work

  • We did consider Forest Hill actually, have a friend down there in a huge mansion flat, would buy it off her if she sells anytime soon

  • Where do you need to get to for work?

  • Clerkenwell.

What's the service charge like on that place? We had to walk away from Ruskin Park House because it was too high

  • That place is notorious though.

I'd have to check with the Mrs, it's not cheap, couple of thousand quid a year I think.

Also they waited until the viewing before telling us about a compulsory £11k heating upgrade. No wonder a fair few have suddenly appeared on the market!

  • 11k between how many places?

  • I just paid 500 quid or so to increase the lease to 999 years and remove the small ground rent charge.

  • I think Ruskin Park is similar in vintage to ours, but we've had the communal heating system removed some time ago.

We were 63 flats, now there is a flat 64- which used to be the boiler room.

  • 11k between how many places?

    Per flat, horse.

  • How many flats?

    1. Sounds like a racket to me, but it's a nice place and people will pay that.
  • That's over two and a half million quid, is that just for the heating?

Are they intending in building a small nuclear plant?!

  • 15% management fee...

  • 20% taking the piss surcharge...

  • 3K per flat for a combi boiler= £723,000
Leaving £1,928,000 for the management committee to spend on coke and whores?

  • I know, mentz innit, apparently Southwark Council's the freeholder but license the management to RPH Limited, a resident managed company or something, confusing

  • Bit like our place- we own the freehold (which in the case of Ruskin would be the council) but then appoint a management company to administer it- as they do with RPH management.
