  • Because I prefer to have a maintenance free lawn which doesn't need anything doing to it for the next decade. I don't have to own a lawnmower, i don't need to weed it & i don't need to water it during our scorching summers ;)

There are plenty of organic things in the rest of the garden. I'm less than a 90 second walk from a large park and less than 5 minutes from Bromley Common which, last time i checked, had enough grass in it for the rest of Bromley twice over.

And yes, if i really want, i could vacuum the thing. In reality, i'll give it a brush once a month for most of the year and once a week during the autumn when leaves are dropping.

  • Considering it here as the shade and drainage mean it's just bare earth out the back. Gonna probably get the shitehouse leilandii (or whatever the fuck those cunts are called) taken down first to see if that helps.

  • What would happen if everybody in the country scrapped their lawns and laid dyed petrochemical products instead?

I'd rather have grass, mud and insects.

  • Fitted a thermostatic shower (mira) 4 years ago, combi boiler and it all worked fine.
Recently the flow is noticeably weak, it still regulates the temperature, but just less water comes out.
Hot water pressure in the other taps seems fine. The shower is more powerful when first turned on, but then seems to throttle back.

    Any ideas what's wrong?

  • Scaled up? London water is very hard and destroys things. Might need descaling?

  • There are thousands of plants that like shady, damp conditions.

Fake grass is an abomination and should be fucking banned. As should leaf blowers.

  • I believe so. They link with Philips TVs too, and do some sort of movie ambient lighting type thing that changes with whatever is going on on screen.

  • Small perennial wildflower meadow. I did a lot of research and am planning to use this mix in our garden, it's an 80/20 mix of meadow grass and wildflowers:

Low maintenance - only needs cutting once a year - and will look lovely come spring/summer.
Provides a great habitat for insects etc. Super cheap as you only need one packet of seeds which is £6. If you like you can cut it with a scythe!

    Also not an abomination ;)

  • That's more like it! We both love the wildflower/grass meadows in the Olympic park.

  • I like it. The whole colour thing is a bit gimicky, but is nice when just siting on the sofa watching the box.
    Current mood is purple/pink.

  • I'm going for this as meadows can take a year or 2 to establish:

More expensive than seed obviously but results within a 6 month period. Dig up old lawn or prepare the patch, lay and off you go. I'm planning on also putting my own seeds that I've collected down before the rolls.

  • you are more than welcome to mend ours ;)

  • @Sparky I need to trim my hedge tomorrow. I want @soul s solution. Will you come trim my hedge please? I need it as close to the base as possible. Please don't knick the tree...

    I want souls solution...

  • I need to trim my hedge tomorrow.

  • i don't need to weed it

    I suspect you will.

Should've just concreted it and painted the concrete green.

Srsly tho - bit of a harsh reaction to a perfectly sensible choice. Lfgss is mean.

  • Thanks for the dehumidifier advice - its sadly satisfying watching it soak up all the shite from our walls.

I wonder what it tastes like...

  • Can be full of bugs, especially once the machine gets a few weeks old. The water is good for watering your geraniums and flushing the bog.

  • Certain plants (coffee for example) don't like tap water due to the (going to guess the wrong one!) alkali nature of hard London water, so dehumidifier water is ideal for watering them.

  • Sensible choice? Bloody horrible choice.

  • Why do you think owning share of freehold is a bad thing? It's a good thing!
You own the property and the land it sits on.
Lease extension is easy and much much cheaper.
Want to alter it internally - all you need is permission from the other freeholder.
    You don't pay ground rent.
You don't get ripped off by the freeholder for maintenance fees.
You want a pet - great go get one.
