Been going through the thread as I'm currently in the market for a water resistant top for wearing on and off the bike, i.e. something cycle friendly but also presentable as a casual jacket.
Shame that Swrve Deck Jacket still doesn't appear to be available over here as it looks super nice, but it looks perhaps a little too warm for my needs. I seem to be pretty resistant to the cold and anything slightly windproof with a layer or two underneath seems to keep me warm however cold it gets, so can anyone recommend anything that'll at least keep the rain and wind off a bit, looks presentable and won't be even slightly boil in the bag? And not phenomenally expensive?
The Chrome De Haro looks alright. Anyone own one?

Actually, I got in touch with the folks at alwaysriding.co.uk and they said they'd have the Deck Jacket in about 2-3 weeks from now, if you're interested!

Looks good, have you tried riding with the hood under the helmet? How did you get on if yes?
Also, how hot are you getting, looks like it has some proper filling inside!
yes, helmet is ok as it is a climbing jacket.
It has light primaloft filling, but the sides are kind of thick lycra/fleece, which help a lot with ventilation. I'd say it is ok for commuting below 15celsius and for high intensity riding like -10 to +10 ish

don't think it could be considered ultimate, but got the Odlo Tornado off SportPursuit for £33. i'd recomend it even at this price.
it's windproofing is the best i've seen in a packable type jacket. surprisingly the water bounces off; i haven't seen them market it as waterproof!i get v. hot on the bike so use this alone with a baselayer now.
i get v. cold off the bike but the windproofing on the jacket is so good that i can use it in combination with a wool jumper in the bag to replace a winter coat./salespitch.

I have a Berghaus Paclite (Griffin collaboration).
I've had it nearly 3 years and its perfect.
1)SUper light.
2) Waterproof- keeps me drizabone.
3) bags of pockets.
4) Hood is big enough for a helmet , no probs.I commute everyday, rain or shine.
This model, cant recommend it enough-

If it comes in black or blue let me know, white/cream will get dirty too quickly
Edit - Just saw it comes in blue - good but pricey for me, I'm looking around £150 - something I can just wear a base l;ayer/tshirt underneath. If anyone has suggestions do let me know

JonD has one, quite likes it but it is not serious protection from the wet.
Looks to me like a nice travel jacket, when some time might be spent off the bike. -

No idea if it's the ultimate, but it's eVent meant to be slim fitting and £85 (death-ninja-black is £100)

If you want a good value for money, surprisingly warm jacket for anything but extreme cold, I'm very impressed with this one from Decathlon. I wore it through most winter rides last year so feel qualified enough to comment on quality and comfort. As an idea on insulation, I'd happily wear just one base layer under this for anything down to about 2-3 degrees, maybe one short-sleeve + one long sleeve for freezing temperatures. It's a very good fit on the bike, no riding up the back.

I also have this jacket and it's really nice, warm but not too hot. Having said that a fair bit of sweat can build up inside the sleeves and the lining gets kinda sticky and clings to your arms abit. And the hood has a bit of filling so it doesn't really fit under my helmet very well.
