That Keela stuff looks pretty good (if it lives up to its claims) is it the kind of thing that would be stocked by most outdoor shops? id be interested to have a gander before dropping some pennies.

I had a Keela softshell and even in deepest winter only needed a longsleeve merino under it to stay really warm. However the high collar was annoying, the cut isn't suited for cycling position and the zip died after one winter of riding. Picked it up in TK Maxx for cheap so wasn't too fussed.

I am going to the lakes for a week in November and I am looking for a jacket primarily for hill walking, but which I can use for my 10 mile commute in awful weather. I have a budget of £200. I want it to be breathable and waterproof.
At the moment I favour the Berghaus Mera Peak. Does anyone have any better suggestions?
Update: I've spaffed my load on a Berghaus Mount Asgard. I'll report back.

Post 377, just a few posts up on this page. KEELA.
Possibly the best made and designed jackets for hill-walking, hiking and mountain climbing.

Hardly the ultimate jacket.
Though this seems to be an impossibility, different jackets for different purposes, like different bikes for different purposes.

i got a raceface membrane jacket in a sale, and thats pretty good. packs away into the back pocket nice and small and keeps my dry enough. it will leak if its raining really really hard for a long time. but for an average rainy british day its pretty good.

KEELA don't just make one jacket, and the one adoubletap had was not the best for cycling. They make other, better suited jackets, that anyone that bothered to look at their range at all, could plainly see.

I would not want to guess fit from online photos.
Did you ever discover who is your mysterious tagger?

Anyone seen this from Uniqlo? Might pop in to see if the fit is cycling friendly - tend to prefer closer fitting jackets to prevent feeling like a parachute when riding.

And you have obviously tried and and tested their jackets and writing as always from your experience?

No I haven't. I am simply bigging up British design and manufacturing, that in this case, is as good as, if not better than most of the best outdoor activity jackets available to the buying public. If i have tried something, properly, I leave a review of my experiences of it here on the forum. Cycling related of course.

So maybe you should think twice before posting statements like this one?

for that kind of money you could just get a cycle specific jacket.
a tight high collar is better for cycling. -

£90? Ouch!
£10-20 and you've got a jacket like Gore or similar.

a tight high collar is better for cycling.People, please dont try to apply logic in this matter.
Someone is always right, always, always, always.
Despite these jackets having no cycling specific features such as short front, long back, cut for cycling, designed for high rate of transpiration (generally you sweat more riding than walking). They are the ultimate cycling jacket!
How dare you question his authority?
Expect angry PM's shortly.

James, you are the main reason that I reduced my activities on this forum. Your protection from on high is obscene and truthfully, I grew very, very, very tired of your childish dislike for my participation on th forum. I know it greatly irritates you that many people do subscribe to a lot of my input in here, but since you've tried your best and it hasn't worked, why nite just stop now? Repping people to neg-rep me only worked for a while. And your lies about angry PMs won't wash either. I have sent you one, and you deserved it, but that was a direct reply to your quite nasty request to me. This forum is diminished by that type of private request, and attitude. You are just sad.

ada I bigged up British enterprise. That was all. Please do not think that my idea is that Keela make the Ultimate Cycling Jacket, because they don't. But in winter, Keela make some of the best jackets for any outdoor activities, and guess what.......they make them in my size too (54 inch chest). Rapha don't.

I would also recommend Royce hubs over any similarly priced hubs, because they're British and I believe in them. Yet I have never owned any. I won't be apologizing for believing in such things.

ada you don't own the forum, so I'll give input in the threads I like. Thanks.
And maybe you don't realise it, but list threads are not all that my contribution is here. Maybe you're not interested in these threads - film photography, Android tech, tyre reviews, ale beer stout, the golden age, .......and thats fine, but to act as if I only participate in a list thread is deeply dim.

Time to get out the peace pipe?
They are only jackets after all.
Thought I was reading Brett Easton Ellis for a moment, I was half expecting you to pull out a Global carving knife..
